cloudseeker2001 0 #26 December 31, 2004 A couple of months ago a skydiver landed and it was obvious this person needed an ambulance.........I ran into manifest and told the person working to make the call.......he looked at the loader and said "will go out and make sure"!!!!!! Maybe another reason to jump with a cell phone! "Some call it heavenly in it's brilliance, others mean and rueful of the western dream"

councilman24 37 #28 December 31, 2004 At the last PIA symposium I presented First Aid for the DZ, subtitled What NOT to do!. Probably not going to give it this time but it's a difficult issue. Some DZ's lawyers tell them to rely on local response and NOT have any staff responding "officially". Others try to be proactive.I'm old for my age. skydiver30960 0 #29 January 1, 2005 The Good Sam law MIGHT offer protection from conviction, but doesn't offer any from prosecution. in other words, they might not win but they can still sue your ass. Elvisio "scene safety, BSI" Rodriguez
skydiver30960 0 #30 January 1, 2005 One thing that might be cool (especially if done in conjunction with Safety Day) is for a DZ to sponsor a CPR/First Aid class. It doesn't offer much when compared to more advanced classes, but does give you some very useful skills that could make a difference. If that went over well, and there was enough interest, the DZ could then sponsor a First Responder or EMT Basic course. Now THAT would be a more serious investment in time for the students in the class, but if there were enough interested students the DZ would benefit from more trained responders. The class would probably be taught at the local Fire/EMS training center, and the DZ could offer to reimburse the cost of the course ($50-100) to anyone who passed the certification test. PhreeZone 20 #32 January 2, 2005 Our DZ offered CPR training classes from an instructors wife that was a trainer. Sign up list had a decent number on it. Weekend before comes and the forcast is showing nothing but blue skies and warm temps. Almost everyone on the list scracted themselves off so that they could jump instead. When I did ICC's, I'd always include a seminar on first aid led by a paramedic, doctor or equivalent. They didn't always show up, though. More recently Amy's done a few seminars on what to do in the event of an injury (and far more importantly, what not to do.)

Yup, and i've offered many times to teach CPR/First Aid/AED to anyone, and have had 1 person take me up on the offer. So many people talk about learning it, but nobody ever acts on it. ___________________________________________ meow I get a Mike hug! I get a Mike hug! kneal 0 #35 January 2, 2005 That's what I thought too....but I guess I was wrong. I was kinda hoping that a simple first aid corse would be required at a "C" or "D" Level..you know after the point of knowing enough to NOT hurt yourself, and be an asset to the new divers. But again, I have been proven wrong.... By the way, the person that pulled my CH. is a "D" holder....I think she just paniced. Oh, well...I don't blame...just wish things had turned out differently.
