rushmc 23 #3 December 5, 2004 QuoteLean manufacturing quality assurance? -Kyle That is part of it but the company I work for does not really manufacture (in the common sense of the word).. We have added the Lean. Have you heard of Six Sigma?"America will never be destroyed from the outside, if we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves." Floats18 0 #4 December 5, 2004 Yea, I'm an engineering student at Purdue and we learned all about it last semester... my professor was a six sigma black belt in the auto industry. Pretty hard core stuff. The company I worked for this summer just integrated some lean cells into their assembly floor. So, thats where I got my bs guess :-P If you don't manufacture then, are you in software?--- and give them wings so they may fly free forever DiverDriver in Training
quade 4 #5 December 5, 2004 "Lean Six Sigma Black Belt" Without knowing -exactly- what you do, I'd say it's associated with job loss. Sure the hell sounds like a new term for hatchet man.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

quade 4 #10 December 5, 2004 Quote No, we work the processes, not the people. I don't see how it's possible to separate the two. Besides which, why all the "black belt" mumbo jumbo? If that ain't code for "I'm going to hurt you" nothing is. Adding the word "lean" doesn't help either. If, as a mere "worker", anyone ever introduced me to someone with that title, I'd be scared shitless -- which, I assume, is the point.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

Naw, didn't seem harsh, seemed pointed to get information, but not harsh. It does, however, seem to be that this thread is in the wrong forum, not much to do about skydiving.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." You hit the point I was trying to make. Our company thought about changing the title of the position. But since it is starting to get international recognition the company did not think they should do that. (we did not start this program) The title is "different" to say the least and I was wondering how many people at dropzones had heard of it. (Six Sigma Black Belt) Now, if I missed the point of quades post I am sorry but, we don't cut positions or people. If the tile is scary well....sorry, I did not create it. And if I am getting to touchy about all of this forgive me.......too many martinis maybe but again, I was just wondering if anybody in skydiving had heard of the title??"America will never be destroyed from the outside, if we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves." Its a very useful skill.. but I just dont like stats that much. ps- I'm an Implementation Specialist for a software company. That usually needs some defining as well.
