1st ParaCommander Jump

I have a couple of Mk 1 PCs in Mini System harness/containers, but haven't gotten around to jumping either. I'm a big fan of keeping handles in the same place from jump to jump.

that's what i have..... i like my round rig... just wsh my 22 foot chest mount reserve was a little bigger....... my paracomander is 9 years older than me..... and the chest mount container is even older at 16 older. (dom 1964)...

and yeah i could never see fitting my pc into a modern rig... it is huge.......well maybe a tandem rig but that is pushing it...

Hi Wingnut

A reserve container DOM of 64 is not old, that baby was to young to go to surplus until the seventies.

Yes the packing volume was a bitch, good news the litle people could land like a feather but they had to walk around with that stuff in a 4 pin container that extended from the bottom of their butt to the middle of their neck.

Sit down in the plane the bottom of the container is resting on the seat the top of the container is close to the middle of your head and the shoulder straps are falling off you shoulders.

Just the way it was. But is still was fun:)

My primary PC is a Lightweight RWPC, D-bagged in a Wonderhog with a 26' steerable conical reserve and a BOC throwout pilot chute.

I have a Sierra set up the same way.

I have a couple of Mk 1 PCs in Mini System harness/containers, but haven't gotten around to jumping either. I'm a big fan of keeping handles in the same place from jump to jump.

I have a UT-15 Russian rig that I can't figure out how to pack. It is in the original Russian harness/container, and quite how the lines should stow and how the sleeve is retained on the canopy is not apparent upon casual inspection. I'll probably wind up setting it up in an American harness/container when I get around to jumping it.

The big problem with the Mk 1s and the UT-15 is they are bloody HUGE! The RWPC and Sierra have about half the pack volume of the traditional PCs, and can be fitted to a Wonderhog with no problem.

I'm not big on belly-mounted reserves - though I have a quarter-bagged C-9 with 4-line release set up in one - so I haven't jumped the Mini Systems to date. I probably should, but am in no rush.

Anyone wishing to jump a ParaCommander need only stop by Tent 3 at the Convention. I have it there every year.

Blue skies,

Winsor

Winsor,
I can't thank you enough for letting me jump your ParaCommander rig three times at WFFC this year. It was a great experience, and I'm grateful you bring those every year for yuppies (like me) to really gain an appreciation for what we have today.
I would very much recommend talking with Winsor or another person familiar with a PC before taking one up, and a much more intense practice session of PLF's...;)

Find you a wonderhog or an early version sweethog.
Build you a d-bag or use a pod, will fit fine, however you may need to turn it sideways in packtray if using a pod.B|

PODs are cool advertised as areodnamically clean and photo graphicailly unclutterd. :P

Had to get one of those B|alsofound out didn't have to worry about the top of the sleeve (or was it a sock:S) rotting off or the sleeve getting caught in a turning slot.

Hi wingnut
Never even heard of a sport reserve container called a green star,:) Who mado it Pioneer?

I guess old is relative:o term. My DOM is 1947 and I'm not even in my golden yrs yet.

Shit who am I trying to fool my golden years were when I was in my teens now I'm old. :( Good news I'm still getting older:)
So if the green container isn't moldy, rotted out from UV etc. It could be considered in its golden years, anything but "old' unless your rigger say's ain't worth fixing, pitch it. Than its....dead:(

made in xenia ohio, same road that skydive greene county is on now.... not sure if the two are conected.......

to the best of my knowlage, greene star put out two rigs, a conventional backpack with chest mount rig and a piggyback... the picggyback was know for bas sewing on the mudflap covers that caused a few fatalities whenthe harness failed...... think they are listed in pointers manuals...... (or so a few rigger friends have said)

Way back in the days of yore when I, an aspiring skydiver with 8 jumps and all the knowledge one can have, managed to get a hold of a old rig that along with racer sst, 5 cell strato star, and 26 ft round came a pc.

I sold that pc to Winsor and i am sure it's one of the 5 he has now.

I wish I never sold it.
