Lurking AFF??

Recommended Posts

Why would someone want to lurk an AFF besides shooting video or evaluating the instructors?

Pretty much everything else will be a huge distraction to the student, who is paying a lot of money to be on that skydive or the instructors who are trying to make sure the student does what is supposed to be done and pulls.

If your friend is on AFF now, give it time and they'll have their license, then yall can go get jumps that area lot lower stress, involve less people and cost a hell of a lot less money.

Very good question, I'm sure others may have the same question!:)

because my (nonskydiving) friend wants to make an aff jump and wondered if there was any way i could be a part of it...

i said "probably not" (other than the plane ride) but it still made me wonder if there were any official rules on this...

but awesome, thanks for the quick resposne!:)

I've thought the same thing a couple of times, but then I saw a vid of a really bad student. They were hauling ass across the sky and the videoman did well to run away. I'm not sure if I could got out of the way if I was in the area have after having seen the video...

I have since decided it'd suck to have a collision with my mate, her instructors and myself on her AFF jumps and will let her go up on her own... :D:D

there'll be loads of time to jump after she gets her A... B|

Other than video, the only people I let lurk an AFF dive are those booked on the AFFICC.

They've sat in on the briefing, seen the dive, and sit in on the debrief. I usually give them a sector to go to after exit - and brief them so stay off the student's back at all times.

"Fun" AFF lurks? Unless they're skilled, responsible and wearing video... No.

If you are there in the plane, and there when he/she lands, thats all they really will remember anyways. I've heard f many tandem passengers who never even see the camera man right in their faces....

My Level 6 and 7 AFF was "lurked" by a FS videographer with about 350 jumps, holding a position I would estimate at about 50ft away, and slightly above me, close enough to shoot reasonable video.
It's not a common practise at our DZ and I'm sure the CI would never allow such lurkers around a Level 1 student.

What the other guys said.. Not only won't the student even know you are there but if they do notice, it'll probably be for a bad reason. AFF jumps are no place for lurkers. A skilled videot looking to get his rating in the near future, possibly.. otherwise.. there is no point in it.. and it adds another factor to an already unpredictable skydive. Have fun jumping with your friend after he / she is stable and aware.. B|:)
