howto explain to friend that (s)he is dangerous?

Recommended Posts

So I have this friend... nice and cool on the ground, but gets
a little to excited or something in the air.... I'm looking for
a way to tell him/her without trying to sound like Im comparing
skill/experience, because I really don't have any, but I know
enough to know that her flying techniques will eventually
get somebody killed... I'm talking about opening way above
planned altitude, flying WAY to close to some other friends under canopy... (I was watching from the ground
but it was obvious and not just to me....) Anyway,
I'd like to give her somewhat of a talking to without
her blowing up at me because I don't have as many
jumps... hell Im not even out of AFF yet. Nobody else
will say anything to her... so ummm, anyone know
the best way I should go about this?

Sorry, you are right you don't have enough experience to talk to your friend about it. I suggest you talk to your S&TA about your concerns and let them handle it.

Don't do it. People will run you off your dz. ;)B| Your friend's life isn't worth it. :D

(In all seriousness, touchy subject, people get anal quickly about it......consult your local S&TA and/or DZO.....)

(And they're right, you aren't experienced enough to say anything.....sorry.........)

(I promise.....no more parentheses.........)

(Okay just one more........) B|

hrmmm.... sounds good, didn't really even think about
that option... thing is, mostly the she gets that way
on fun jumps w/ friends when she isn't jumping with instructors or
anyone to sign off her license stuff... So I'm not going
to be like... "yah, my friend is screwing up, go yell at her"
cause Im thinking they're going to want to know what
Im talking about, and they're pretty busy... so it's not like
I can grab them and be like "LOOK! LOOK! See what Im
talking about"... Whatever, Im just a little worried I guess
I dunno... If anything... We'll (Circle of jumping friends...) sit her down and at least let her know...

well just tell her that despite having a smaller experience than her, you're feeling concerned by the way she flies...
if she doesn't understand, too bad for her.

Yah.. I hear that, I'm also wondering... will it everntually
dawn on her if I don't say anything? Is she or do most people go through a "show
off" stage??? Could this be the reason for her unrealized recklessness? Im just wondering because I don't want to
end up in her position...

Oh, and by the way, saying you are not off AFF yet, and reading this

is this really accurate ??
I am feeling concerened about you attempting freeflying and freestyling with the level anyone can have at 9 jumps, and certainly not an adequate rig. :P

Just remember that what she does seems not to be safe IN YOUR EYES. She might be much safer than you think... Or not.

kinda sucks right??

Yup. It sucks even more when the jumper/s in question are finally grounded, the dz then takes 100% credit for realization and correction of the problem, and YOU are still made to look like the ass for giving a shit in the first place. :S

[/rant] Sorry, I'm done now. ;) Promise.

Still, in this case, you don't really have any room to talk. If you were more experienced than said jumper, then cool, but at this point, sorry pal. Either way, at least you have your eye out for your buddies. That's awesome.

Question......was it just one incident, or is it a consistent thing? Here's the reason I ask....Even really awesome flyers make mistakes now and again. But if it's a constant thing, then trust me, more than one person would have noticed, and maybe some of the people who are noticing are experienced enough to say something if there is indeed a consistent problem.

I jump student rigs w/ 220 mains... I have a vector V353 container and I WANT to get into Freestyle... like I said, not off AFF, but I do have plans... but I only became concerned when
she depolyed her pilot chute at 6k when planned for a 3.5-4k opening almost directly below
one of my other buddies that shook him up real good
and in the same day almost deflated his wifes main
at 1.5 thousand, with whom I am very close with. So
I don't think it's just my eyes... but I do know where
your comming from... and I appreciate it, but it
really shook my friends up and she is also a friend
so I feel like Im obligated to let her know whats up..
I happen to see the canopy situation from the ground
and 4 people I wasn't even around were thinking they
were doing some sort of C.R.eW manuver...

I have plans to do at least 4,000 more freefly dives, but I don't post that I have them. ;) Sorry bro, he's right, you might wanna change those freefly/freestyle to 0's.

Slow down, again: take your time and learn!! >:(
It's your and other's life you're talking about. One day it could happen, someone else tells you just to go home. Could be hard.

9 jumps and talking like a fool! I get grazy!!!

Chat to an instructor/DZO/S&TA. Basically, someone with more experience and authority than you.

There aren't a hell of a lot of people I could give shit to and I've got 150 jumps. I'd talk to an instructor and let them have a quiet, friendly chat. You're not even off AFF, right? At best you'll get told to STFU.

Your recourse, as I see it, is to bring it to the attention of someone with significantly more experience than you and let them make the judgement call.

So basically Im getting from this that I should shut my
mouth because I have no idea what Im talking about
and since every incident in skydiving seems to be
hypothetical that there is no logical way to prevent them.
and if people happen to die, .... shit happens. I guess.

Eh, I don't agree with everyone else. How good a friend is this? Don't want the person to get hurt or hurt someone else? Scream your ass of at her. She might tell you that you don't know what you're talking about. Can you live with that? :P

Give specific examples if you have to. When it comes to safety, what the hell good does keeping your mouth shut do? And talking to an S&TA or instructor is also a good idea. But in my experience, they aren't going to yell at your friend without witnessing these things themselves. But the more people your friend hears it from, the better.

I have one friend that I used to think was going to kill himself. I told him that many times. He's survived long enough now to know he's an idiot though. :)

ok, here it is... There is 4 of us... we all relativly on the
same level of skill... minor differences, Im just the bottom
of the totem pole... we all sit and chat about the next
level of training and how we're going to go about doing
it. Pretty much everything skydiving related, we go over
and see what everyone thinks... but since this weekend
both my friends are too pissed off to even jump with
this person again and I want to let her know so she
can be a better skydiver, I'd really hate to see someone
hang around and not have anyone to jump with because
they don't like jumping with that particular person...
I don't really expect you guys to understand but
it is a pretty important deal, so I don't think Im just
going to shut up... but I don't want to make her feel
alone in the matter either... which she will ultimatly
end up being if nothing is done or said.. it's just
more stress and depression nobody needs...

If you're a good mate, just tell her that your friends are pissed with her because of what's happened. Then you arrange for her to chat to them. With an instructor/S&TA/DZO present to arbitrate ;)

Now, if it really is 02:30 where you are, go to bed! Losing sleep won't help anybody :P

Danke Fisch,
as I've got holidays for one week, I spend my time waisting my life in front of the computa...And going to bed whenever I like :P. daddy.

Seriously:

I do not want to attack the guy. I know by myself that 's horrible. He only should listen. It seems he's stuck on a certain opinion. But who could help him out? You know how important that is. To listen. So I repeat:

He should ask people in charge of that. Not more, not less.

BTW: Next time, I will join the POPs, that's for sure!
