pertierr 0 #1 October 18, 2004 So the cold weather is here, and I am 4 jumps shy of my A license. It looks like I might not have a chance to do them at my home DZ(Greensburg), so any suggestions on what I could do? I usually drive down to Miami for Thanksgiving so is it possible to finish up those few jumps at another DZ, even if the rest of the card was signed off elsewhere? All my card is checked off, except for the 25 jumps and the packing. Do I lose everything if I don't jump until the next season? Man that would suck. Thanks, Juan
PhreeZone 20 #2 October 18, 2004 You should be able to finish up at any DZ. Just remember your currency requirements and you might have to go out with an instructor if you are too far out of currency. Its not cold enough to stop jumping in the Midwest yet. Jib 0 #3 October 18, 2004 There are a bunch of dropzones off 95 on the way south including Deland (20 west of Daytona) or Sebastian about 5 east. kai2k1 0 #4 October 18, 2004 Too cold?? Its not even close to being too cold to jump here in the midwest. If you're worried about currency through the winter when the temp is above 50 just go and make a hopnpop then your current for another 30 days. That being said I was a student through last winter and managed to stay current. Just dress for the cold. A neck muffler, sweatshirt and a turtleneck will keep you warm in freefall. Also buy a pair of neoprene gloves and a pair of those little stretchy gloves to wear underneath them. Just make sure that you can feel and touch all of your handles before getting in the aircraft. Jskydiver22 0 #5 October 18, 2004 Were still jumping here in Franklin, Indiana. I dont see why greensburg would stop you from jumping. Yeah its not too cold here, this isnt even close to cold compared to the actual midwest winter. --I don't even know enough to know that I dont know--
AggieDave 6 #6 October 18, 2004 Who cares if its cold, as long as the conditions are jumpable there's no reason not to jump. Just dress for the weather. May I suggest Under Armour cold weather gear and the US issue poly pro is pretty good as well. You might want to get something like a poly-pro mask and some good gloves that are still thin enough that you can feel your handles easily with. A neat trick with that is you can wear latex gloves under thinner gloves and you'll be nice and warm. The downside is your hands will sweat, so you'll want to take them off after every jump.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." I love being spoiled with a CASA nearly all summer long.People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
pertierr 0 #9 October 18, 2004 Thanks for the replies...i guess i must've underestimated the weather conditions or something...the DZ is 2 hours away from where I live so i have to rely on the weather forecasts to decide if it is going to be worth the drive. Either way, i'm going to make my way down to DeLand during November. Sounds like an awesome DZ. I'm also from Puerto Rico, so I will be there for a few weeks during Christmas. Anyone jumped there before(Xtreme Divers)? My main concern is my low level of experience and jumping at a DZ where the landing area is relatively large....being used to Indiana and all. I guess another factor would be travelling with my rig and consequently making my parents beleive it's just a cool backpack.
djmarvin 2 #10 October 18, 2004 Juan, We (greensburg) are scheduled to be open till November 21. We are open every day this week (unless its like today, damn rain) and not only are we open this weekend, but it is $15.00 jumps all weekend long. Come on out when you get the chance and knock out some jumps and if its too rainy or dark to jump we can knock out some of the other stuff on your A card. You should have no problem finishing your A.
