sangiro 25 #1 September 19, 2004 Heya all, I'm looking for some help to pin all the DZs in my database on a map. I have already looked up all the DZs in the US so please do not flood this thread with updates from the USA. Here's what I'm looking for: 1) Latitude/Longitude in decimal degrees (eg. -65.76978 +45.90890) 2) ICAO code (this is your international airport identifier) 3) DZ Name 4) Country 5) Airport name I will need at least:1) OR 2) as well as 3) and 4) Post to this thread. Please do not post unless you are providing this information. If anyone out there happens to have all this info for any country feel free to send it my way. sangiro 25 #8 September 20, 2004 Quoteis there a website where you could get this kind of information?... Never mind found it...http://www.airrouting.com/content/airportloc.html There are plenty of sites actually. You can also try: http://www.airnav.com/ http://www.landings.com/ .... and a few others. The problem is often making the connection between the airport and the DZ, and then getting the ICAO code for the airport with the DZ. After that, looking up lat/lng is pretty easy. Thnaks to those who've posted info!Safe swoops Sangiro
yoink 321 #9 September 20, 2004 Hey HH - all UK Latitude and Longitudes for each DZ are available at http://www.bpa.org.uk/dropzone/dzone.htm just click on each DZ link on the map... I'm not sure about the ICAO code - I don't know what that is. DZ name is listed for each and as a hint, I'm guessing the country is probably the same hope this helps

sangiro 25 #11 September 20, 2004 Quoteall UK Latitude and Longitudes for each DZ are available at http://www.bpa.org.uk/dropzone/dzone.htm Hey - I've seen this, but those are actually pretty confusing... to me anyways! For starters the BPA gives Headcorn as: Longitude & latitude: 510925N 0003902E I suspect that's actually the other way round. It's latitude and then longitude the way they posted it. Here's the same Headcorn listing from Landings.com: Latitude: 51° 9' 27" North Longitude: 0° 38' 24" East Now look at their longitude again (from the BPA site). If I had to try and place the minutes and seconds in there I would have ended up with: Longitude: 00° 03' 90" East ...which is of course very different! Maybe a pilot can tell me what to make of a lat/lng that's written like they do on the BPA site. Am I supposed to read it from left to right with 2 numbers for each reading except the last, or is there some other way?Safe swoops Sangiro

sangiro 25 #18 September 21, 2004 Thanks a lot everyone... keep them coming! BTW - We found a pretty comprehensive list of ICAOs all over the world... with lat/lng values! Very neat. So, we can create the relationship between ICAOs and lat/lng values. To me the most valuable thing now is simply the ICAO of your DZ airport. http://www.homepages.mcb.net/bones/06airfields/icao.htmSafe swoops Sangiro
