somethinelse 0 #1 October 11, 2004 Hey, I got a question for you guys. I am working hard on my skillls and take advice and tips well and where ever I can get them, and apply them where I can. OKAY? I am still working towards my "A". Nearly there, but not quite. I hope to have IT by the end of the month...! I have had the priviledge of some GREAT INSTRUCTORS & COACHES along the way...and they have assured me that they would be HAPPY TO JUMP WITH ME once I get my A. Other really experienced jumpers have told me this too. Is this unusual? Or more common with women jumpers and/or because I am excited about this sport and "teachable"??? The reason is because with a teachable person whit small jump numbers you can teach them how to be safe in the sky with your self or your group. Some people are not willing to be taught and just think people are having a go at them when you try to help them. These are the people who find them selves feeling like others are skygods. I good student is someone who realise they are a student and are willing to learn. I find that students with the right attitude will get alot of time from other skydivers in the air, even if it takes you forever to learn something. Then again you get the odd few who reackon that having their 'a' license means they can go and do whatever they want in the sky, this leads to a dangerous skydiver. I find students great fun to have around cause i get to do coach jumps with them and i love it when i helped someone improve what they were having trouble with. What all students need to know though is that you never stop learning in skydiving...well i have not yet. If you are a teachable student, you are going to have a long and great life on the dz, you will make some great friends, but take your time, it is like any other social group. We just trust each other with our lives at 180mph. Don't try to hurry your knowledge, there is always something to learn and if someone is taking their time to explain it, well listen, you will get more respect by listening than by buying beer. .Karnage Krew Gear Store . I see female jumpers getting a LOT more one on one attention from people. If you add a willingness to learn its even more prominent. At my DZ there are a few people who typically organize for RW. We are a lot smaller than the major DZs but we are still decent sized. The group of people I jump the most with will include anyone on the DZ as long as they show a desire to learn/improve. If a person doesn't show that they are giving their best effort to learn something and get better it makes it harder to deal with them on every jump if they continually screw up. Its easy to deal with a situation where a person makes a mistake if they are trying to learn. No one wants to force a person to learn they have to want it too (and actually try.) As for the swooping / skygod correllation I dunno about that. People are who they are regardless of what skill set they have or what type of jumping they do. If a person is an asshole they are an asshole.
