Have you talked to the instructors at your DZ about this yet? They know their student program the best and can help you get to your goals.

With that said.

If your DZ has a tandem progression that has working tandems that count towards your license, then I really recommend that. I've seen quite a few students come and go, the tandem progression students tend to repeat less dives in AFF and generally do better with a lot of skills like canopy control.

yea the dz i'm going to offers tandem progression, and i was thinking the same as you another tandem will help me. but my tandem master on my first jump said that the people who start aff usually do better and progress faster than tandem progression students. I honestly do not care how I do it as long as i learn every possible thing that i can. because in my opinion a educated skydiver is a safe skydiver and a safe skydiver is a happy skydiver... and thats what i'm going for I want to be safe and have fun I don't want to jump in to allot of extreme stuff until i am 125% sure that i know what i am doing

I don't know you understand what i mean but that is the best i can explain it...

If they have tandem progression then just do that. On the 2nd tandem you absorb so much more about what is going on and how to do things. I'm very glad I did 2 before going into AFP.
Also, ask a lot of questions and try to do as much as possible on your 2nd jump. If you do things right that will give you more confidence for going into AFF.

Good luck!

I got a lot out of my second tandem before AFF, way more than my first tandem... it certainly can't hurt to do another one first. I know I was a lot less nervous for AFF1 because I already had 2 jumps under my belt. My second tandem was basically a dress rehearsal for AFF1 and since they all count towards your A license, why not do it if you feel like it.

I did a tandem a year before starting AFF, without intending at the time to go on and get involved in the sport. I can't imagine it improved my technique much, but I think it was good to have experienced the noise and rush of freefall, opening shock and groundrush before doing AFF - gave me some idea of what to expect.

I got more out of my second tandem too. I was more aware of what was going on. I recommend that if you are unsure don't worry about faster progression worry about not tensing up. If you aren't relaxed you won't pass anyway

You did your IAF Tandem at Atlanta Skydiving Center, so the way we work it is...

You can take the 1st Jump AFF Class and then you will be on AFF Level II.

Or you can continue with the tandem progression (IAF II and IAF III), take the 1st Jump AFF Class, and then be on AFF/IAF IV.

Anyway, you can switch at anytime. You can even do IAF (tandem) II, take the 1st Jump AFF Class, and they be on AFF III. Personally, if you do the IAF program, this is the time I prefer to see students switch over to AFF.

Hope that helps,
Mike
