voodew1 0 #1 February 23, 2004 Can some tell me where to find a training harness(ripcord would be great but I can modify) or any other training aids that would help in the certification course. I would be interested in purchase or rent if someone has these laying around. Checked all the online stores with no luck
riggerrob 643 #2 February 24, 2004 The simplest way to get a ground training harness is to dig an old (read grounded) skydiving rig out of the attic and cut off most of the container. Just leave the backpad on the harness and sew on a variety of Velcros and pockets to accommodate a variety of handles: BOC, leg strap, etc. For a horizonal trainer, lay students face down in a hammock. If you want to get fancy, you can cut a face hole in the hammock and sew on dummy handles and altimeters. Speaking of dummy altimeters, they are available from Para-Gear and almost manditory for preping freefall students. Other training aids include photographs of malfunctions and videos. Several different companies have produced AFF training videos over the years. The list of training aids is limited only by your imagination. Just pre-test them to ensure they are safe (unlike the wing strut that fell off our mock-up when I was practicing exits with IAD students last weekend) and realistic (i.e. standing up while practicing arches is not realistic because most freefall students can not feel their foot position). voodew1 0 #3 February 24, 2004 Somebody out there has training aids they are never going to use again or would be willing to rent. Anything at all would be cool. I would even buy a hunk of shit rig just for the harness. Help a brother out! The pimp hand is powdered up ... say something stupid
flyangel2 2 #4 February 25, 2004 What about asking your local rigger to make a harness? It doesn't have to be perfect, just enough so the student knows where the handles are at. Just use the light weight webbing. The AFF evaluators like to see just how much imagination you've used for training aids.May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds. - Edward Abbey
TimDave 0 #5 February 25, 2004 I have seen some nice training aids (harness) that were made from a very simple vest. The handles were then just velcro attached. There was a pouch on the back for a pilot chute and a channel for the ripcord. I am sure it did not take much, but it was very useful.
nightjumps 1 #6 February 28, 2004 When are you going to the course? How long will you need them? I have everything you need to be successful including training altimeter, harness, etc. You pay shipping to & from. You burn it, you've bought it. Will include a shipping list of what was sent & you check off what you're sending back. Fair enough?
