kamih 0 #1 September 17, 2004 Hey guys, I'll be in Paris a few weeks at the end of the month, and I'm thinking of going to the windtunnel they have at aerokart. How much time do you guys think I should schedule for? I'm just looking to work on basic rw stuff. The guys at aerokart recommend doing 2x15min. I can afford it, but I probably won't be jumping alot during the winter here in NJ, so I'm wondering if I'll just forget what I learned. Also, what kind of physical preparation is recommended before going there? Ive read of people who were so sore that their last sessions of the day were just not productive at all.. blue skies! rehmwa 2 #2 September 17, 2004 You can do a search in the RW forums and get a lot of advice on this topic. Best to hire a coach and do a 1 hour camp over a day or two. It'll stick over the winter, don't worry about losing the lessons. You might need to work a bit to find time, tunnel time books up fast. ... vt1977 0 #3 September 17, 2004 First off, the Paris wind tunnel is expensive - like double the price of those in Orlando and Perris Valley. That is the reason why Brits fly to the states to do any decent amount of tunnel time! Are you planning to do the 2 x 15 minutes in one day? Or over 2. I have done 30-40 minutes in a day before and had no problems. Providing that you stretch before hand (v important!), the tunnel time is decently spaced out and you keep hydrated you should be absolutely fine doing 30 minutes in a day. As for physical preparation - reasonable upper body strength helps (think press ups). You won't need to be super fit, but providing you're in reasonable physical shape you should be fine. Before my last tunnel camp I was aiming to do 30-40 press ups each day as preparation. Working on flexibility will help too. Have a great time and make sure you get ciaching in there! A decent tunnel coach will accelerate your learning beyond belief! Vicki
kamih 0 #4 September 17, 2004 Thanks for your replies. Yes, I know it's expensive, but I'll be in Paris to visit my family anyways. It's not a Paris/Orlando choice, otherwise I would def. be going to Orlando I think I would probably do 15 minutes the first day, and 15 or more a second time if it feels right. And yes, I am definetely getting a coach. I'm reasonably fit, so from what you say I guess it should be ok. Thanks for the info! blue skies!
rehmwa 2 #5 September 17, 2004 abs and lower back, lots stretching, more water and carbs during the day sleep good at night stretching, even more general weight training. ((do it everyday or every other day for the one or two months before going if you have the time - you know what? that's a good idea even if you aren't going to the tunnel)) my inside center and I did over 5 hours in two days in Orlando last April and had no issues - we are fit, but not super so. So an hour in a day is not a problem unless you're out of shape (IMHO) - so if you want to do 2 15 minute sessions, then do it in the same day with an hour off between the sessions. You'll want more though. edit: and it is fun ... I'll probably want to do more but 30 minutes is already almost 700euros, and Im planning on buying my first rig soon. So thanks for the tips. I'll tell you how it went when I'm back. blue skies! How do they expect to attract the customers from Europe if it is still cheaper for them to fly to US
