skydiveoc 0 #27 September 11, 2004 I operate a DZ within the CrossKeys market and it has become an extremely competitive market with unethical practices everywhere thanks to the people of ASC and skyride. They are the inventors of tandem skydiving's hidden fees, false claims and bogus websites. CrossKeys's volume, overhead, and competitive nature have led them down the road of un-ethics with this "gear rental" thing. It is for sure a step down and away from their top notch reputation as a premier DZ and school. At the end of the day, I am proud to say that I maintain a steady business from quality performance with my staff and honest marketing from location and reputation. It is sad that others feel they need to deceive to earn a bigger slice of the pie.

secretangel 0 #29 September 11, 2004 I am a brand-new skydiver, having just done my second tandem. I plan to eventually get my certification, and stumbled across this website. I can't believe this negative vibe! These posts seem to imply that Freefall Adventures doesn't tell you about the gear rental fee; in fact they tell you in the same breath as the price "$165 plus a $30 gear rental, so your first tandem will be $195." Even with the separate gear rental, that's still cheaper than the $209 they quoted me last summer. I went with Freefall Adventures since my friends went with them before and had such a good experience (and they have the best reputation in the area). Since we came in a big group (ten or eleven people or something), our TOTAL price was $165 anyway.
PhreeZone 20 #30 September 11, 2004 Guess what.. there is'nt another DZ in the US charging for "gear rental" on a tandem. Thats why everyone has comments on it. I'm also yet to see a DZ that does'nt give price breaks for large groups so thats nothing new either. http://web.archive.org/web/20030608232706/www.freefalladventures.com/skydive/main_student.html Here is their pricing from last year. They had special notice to consumers saying that their prices included everything even :http://www.freefalladventures.com/consumer_alert.htmYesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
MikeTJumps 4 #31 September 13, 2004 I concur. I consider that a deceptive business practice and it is certainly not the industry standard. Unfortunately, the USPA is not in the business of regulating skydiving industries. However, we as reputable authorities in the business can certainly raise a red-flag on such business practices. 800-SKYRIDE is such an item as well, continuing to disregard good business practices with their advertising which is very deceptive. BUYER BEWARE! Now for the "Tounge in cheek"......Or, you can insist that you get a tandem ride without the equipment and threaten to bring charges against the DZ for offering suicide rides (without parachutes!).Mike Turoff Instructor Examiner, USPA Co-author of Parachuting, The Skydiver's Handbook
