Brian425 0 #3 February 17, 2004 I just off AFF and doin my solos for my A. I still get a little scared on the way up. I find that working through the dive in my head passes some of the time. I also talk with my coach or one of my friends a little. Take a few slow deep breaths and try to relax. Everyone is scared in the beginning. The key is to get yourself well prepared. Before you get in the plane, know the dive inside and out. Get a gear check from an instructor or JM. Smile. I know it sounds like BS but it helps me to smile. You will do fine!! Have fun and be safe. B The only time you should look down on someone is when you are offering them your hand.
VirtualBoy 0 #4 February 17, 2004 How was your experience about the parachute, I mean while you on Freefall and when you open it, it was easy to controll it, tell me about it!

I'm also just finished with AFF and personally, canopy flight is one of my favorite things about this sport. You open high enough so that you have plenty of time to play around and get a feel for the canopy before entering your landing pattern. Just relax and have fun. Never go to a DZ strip show. VirtualBoy 0 #6 February 17, 2004 How much time I may waste once I jump from the plane, I know that there will be two instructors helping me to be stable, the thing is I will have to Arch and Release stress but I'm Worry about the timing to get stable

You're going to hear this time and time again, and it may take a while to sink in. But things go so much smoother when you are relaxed. Good luck ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Trust me this is plenty of time. Your JMs will be with you, out the door you may experience sensory overload but the next thing you know you'll just be flying. Stay altitude aware and relax. It's gravy. Never go to a DZ strip show.
cruzit 0 #9 February 17, 2004 It is entirely normal to be a little (okay) a lot scared on your first skydive. After all, you are jumping out of a plane. In my experience, once a person has spent 6 to 8 hours in the class room, most are eager to jump. Not necessarily not scared...just prepared. Remember it's not the situation, it's your reaction to the situation. I know you are hearing this a lot...but relax, relax, relax. On the way to altitude, take some deep breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth to help center you. Spend time on the ride to altitude going over the skydive and the learning objectives (mental preparation it very important). Once you are in the door, focus on the tasks. Don't be surprised if you have "sensory overload." This is the phenomena where you exit the plane, but your brain has decided you're crazy for jumping and takes a little while to decide to catch up to you. This sensation seems to last a long time, but in reality it only lasts one or two seconds. After your brain catches up get back to focusing on the tasks, or learning objectives, in the skydive. Have faith in your JMs and in yourself. Good luck to you...let us know how you do.
