Classifying an area for a Demo Jump

Recommended Posts

Ok. So I've read through the Demo Jump section in the SIMs and have some questions. It states that you need a PRO Rating to jump into a stadium. However to jump into an Open Field of Field Level 1, just a C liscense and 200 jumps. Under Field 1 it states that open athletic fields usually fall under this category. My question is...would a small university's football field that only has bleachers about 100 feet high on 2 sides count as a field or stadium? How can I determine it? Is it just by estimation? It definitely falls within the 250,000 square foot minimum. I would appreciate any help with this. Thanks.

Why do you think it has a 250,000 square foot landing area? A football field is only about 36000 square ft. Even you have a track around it and triple the area with the side lines your still only at at little more than 100,000 sq. ft.

from the SIM
Stadium
1. A Level 2 landing area smaller than 150 yards in length by 80 yards in width and bounded on two or more sides by bleachers, walls, or buildings in excess of 50 feet high
2. This area would also require an FAA Form 7711-2 to conduct an approved demonstration jump.

Your definately dealing with a stadium. And don't forget the goal posts, light poles, surrounding buildings, and parking lots that will be full.

36,000 sq ft?
wouldn't just the football field itself be at least 57,000 sq ft? because a football field is 100 yds * 53 yds = 57,000 sq ft. This doesn't include the coaches/team area, plus the track around the field.

but from the SIM I believe you are correct, it would definitely fall within 150 yards long by 80 yards wide.

The key words are "congested area." I think your football stadium qualifies as a congested area. Flip to the back of your SIM and read AC 1-5-2c. The definition of a congested area is under (15)(e).
