Fuzzy 0 #1 June 28, 2004 Just wanted to pass on a "Congratulations" to Tom McCarthy owner/operator of Skydive Gananoque who did his 10,000th jump on June 26, with a nice 8-way out of a 206 & a 182 In typical "Tom Fashion" the experience level on the jump included people in the low 100's up to the 10,000, 'cause he just wanted to have fun. Tom's son Will, & brother John were also on the skydive with him. He was presented with a T-shirt that said "Just Another 10,000 Jump Wonder" Tom also marked his 40th anniversary in the sport a few weeks ago. He has been working in the sport for the majority of that time and spent many years competing on the Canadian Style & Accuracy Team. jumperconway 0 #2 June 28, 2004 Congrat's to Tom! I think I would quit well before 10,000 Cessna rides!
murrays 0 #3 June 29, 2004 I jumped at Gananoque from 1981 until 1990. I used to work 3 on, 3 off shift work and lived on the dz in the summer so I spent a lot of time shooting the breeze with Tom. One of my favourite memories.... We were discussing someone with 500-600 jumps who had quit jumping. Tom says to me,"He said he was bored with skydiving. How can you ever get bored with leaving an aircraft?" Obviously Tom never has! kingbunky 3 #4 June 29, 2004 QuoteCongrat's to Tom! I think I would quit well before 10,000 Cessna rides! at 20 minutes a ride, he's spent about 20 solid weeks of his life in a cessna! another way to look at it, imagine going to work every day for a year and a half and spending 8 hours in one. Fuzzy 0 #5 June 29, 2004 The funny thing is that after all these years and all those jumps - he still hits his head on the wing when getting in the plane. Fuzzy Ambition / Ability: Know the difference.
tfelber 0 #6 June 29, 2004 Did he buy beer? Because technically that was his first 10,000th jump.
Fuzzy 0 #7 June 29, 2004 "Did he buy beer" Yep - and not that cheap stuff either. He got the good stuff with alcohol in it. To be honest after the jump he offered us the option. He would either pay for the load, or buy beer. We all opted for the beer. That may sound dumb to some, but he is a real good guy, and lets face it "Free Beer" - There are some traditions you just don't mess with Fuzzy Ambition / Ability: Know the difference.
