swarley 0 #1 May 27, 2004 FYI, Tom Goodrick has modeled a nice 280 sq ft Parafoil with a 200# pilot for Flight Sim 2004. The flight dynamics seem very good. Stick controls only Toggle Left/Toggle Right and flaps for flare Get it Here. File is parafoil.zip Be sure to read the "Read me" file Smoke is available with the "I" key. Unutsch 0 #2 May 27, 2004 and i thought it is the accuracy canopy... but i'll try it anyway, since i've got really bored simulating i'm a pilot for skydivers with the Cessna Caravan... Fallndown 0 #3 May 27, 2004 Thats interesting, I just put 2004 on my machine last week. How do you get altitude for it? I haven't figured out how to get the glider up either, yet. Sounds pretty cool though.
pilotdave 0 #4 May 27, 2004 Switch to slew mode by hitting Y. Then hit F4 to increase your altitude. When you're high enough, hit F2 to stop climbing and Y again to go back to regular flight. Dave
skydiver30960 0 #5 May 27, 2004 I don't have FS 2004 but I still think it's a riot that somebody took the time to do this! Schweet! Next, we need somebody to model Luigi Cani flying that 39 squarefooter! Elvisio "virtual swooping rocks" Rodriguez
smurf 0 #6 May 27, 2004 NICE! Would it be difficult to change the flightmodel into something a little more radical like a VX or Velocity? >erlend
swarley 0 #7 May 27, 2004 The (.air) file can be modified if you know what you are doing to make adjustments in the flight dynamics. Tom is trying to model just the pilot without the Airfoil for realistic freefall, but because FS-2004 won't allow 2 models in 1 aircraft folder, it will be up to the user to switch to the parafoil before . (No Automatic deploy at 700' ) Steve My Site
smurf 0 #8 May 27, 2004 I tried to increase the pilotweight to 800# and now it's really swoopin It still turns rather slowly until you get it into a dive, but when you get it into a dive it dives a LOT. I'd say the recovery arc is about 1500f at least. Also it should be possible to flare more smoothly, with the additional weight it pops right back up when you apply the flaps. Tried to make the canopy more elliptical, but it didn't like that at all >erlend
swarley 0 #9 May 27, 2004 "I'd say the recovery arc is about 1500f at least. Also it should be possible to flare more smoothly, with the additional weight it pops right back up when you apply the flaps. " Erlend, Make sure you have "autorudder" enabled on the realism menu. This increases the turnrate. Try Half flaps instead of full flaps for the flare. Rather than increase the weight of the pilot there should be a way to reduce canopy area. You might ask Tom.
