Phree- 6'2", 175, is not average weight. I'd peg that at least 15-20 low.

http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/dnpa/bmi/calc-bmi.htmRight in the middle of the Normal weight status ;) Take a look at that site and see where you rank on the scales.

When I'm in my best conditioning for an event like the Alcatraz Triathlon, I'm 6'0", 185lbs, 12.5% BF. That gets me a BMI that is grey zone. BMI is essentially useless for athletes. Only the elite endurance athletes have a result similar to your's.

And getting back on track to the rant, nothing is wrong with eating the occasional Double Double. It's when that is the basis of your diet that there are problems. And for most, the lack of exercise is a much greater problem - the thin fat people with great BMI's but terrible ratios of fat/muscle ratios. Average BF for men is 22% in the US. (5-20 is good range) Women are close to 30 (15-25 would be considered good).

Yeah, I too though about posting. I was just under the impression that us "larger" guys should just stand around manifest and keep bugging/asking..outta fuel yet? can we go now...great feeling that we should "wait" around till the plane is runnin' on MT before we can GO. Well thank God that is not the problem where I'm at.

Going UP?
So, you bring your beer?

I'm curious about what motivated your post.

Do you really think that it is news to us big guys that the planes we fly in have weight limits?

Do you really think that we're too stupid to consider weight when we manifest a load?

I am both a skydiver and a pilot. I weigh just under 300 lbs. I can not get into an airplane with out considering not only total weight, but also CG. When I get into a skydiving plane I always plan on taking a position near the center of lift if possible. If I'm truly concerned about a particular load and exit order I will discuss it with the pilot or bump from the load.

Ok Let me ask you this.

You think all big guys are as smart as you? Thats like me saying all people 6'2" and 187lbs are good looking.

Yes I think "large" people are smart, I also think there are some "large" people that have a slower than normal learning curve. Same goes for skinny's and muscular people, same goes for white, black, and purple people.

That question alone "Do you really think that it is new to us big guys that the planes we fly in have weight limits?"

By you saying that, you are talking on behalf of all "large people". You are basically saying that all large people understand the concepts of weight and balance. The same training it took you and I our hard earned time and money to attain.. but these other "big guys" got it for free?... Where was I?

WOULD I BE WRITING THIS POST IF I THOUGHT ALL BIG GUYS KNEW THE IMPACT THEY HAD ON A SMALL PISTON?

So to answer your question curious guy, yes i think there are "stupid" fat people.

Look.. this is a message to everyone with some smart ass remark.... keep it to yourself... sit back and learn something. You're starting to annoy me.

Slyder

PS if you are a 300lb jump pilot...I hope to god that you're not flying 182's or you must be flying alot of 3 person loads or 4 small children... good on yah....bet your not legal very often when you fly.

Oh hell. Now the smart ass people have gone and annoyed you. Crap.

If I cared to take the time to filter all your posts in this thread I think I could come up with a whole pile of smart ass remarks.

I guess you are allowed though. You are special ;)

Why dont you folks just let this thread die? Its degenerated into useless sniping.

I AM LEGAL EVERY TIME I FLY.

I have never flown an airplane either over gross or out of CG. As a 300 lb. pilot I must always pay attention to weight and balance.

BTW, I did not say that I was a jump pilot. I also did not say that I was smart (I'm posting to this thread), but if I ever do fly jumpers I guarantee that I will be within allowable W&B.

Perhaps we should create a poll and ask the skydiving population "Is there a weight limit on the aircraft that you jump from?" I doubt that we would get any serious "No" answers.
