jerry81 10 #1 April 20, 2004 I work part-time for the Slovenian publication of FHM magazine and the editor today asked me if I could get them a freefall photo of a skydiver for an article (didn't say what it's about), preferrably with the airplane still in the background. And that it would be best if they had it by yesterday. Problem is there's a serious lack of (good) freefall photographers around here and video grabs aren't good enough for a quarter-page picture. I've briefly considered just taking someone's photo of their webpage and ignoring the copyrights but I really don't want to resort to that, not because of possible legal problems (seriously, how many of you read FHM...in Slovenian?) but because it just seems bad form to me to rip off another skydiver like that, even if noone's off worse because of it. So if anyone's generous enough let us use a picture that they took (freeflying or freestyle would be best, not too many people with some camera geeking if possible) they'd have my undying gratitude, as well as a paid first round should we ever meet and (should you wish so) a copy of the magazine mailed to you at my expense. (Which is about as much as I can offer. I have no part in editorial decisions and knowing the people that take them, I'm afraid purchasing copyrights is out of the question.) thelem 0 #6 April 20, 2004 You could try http://vividviews.com/index.php He can get you larger scans of any images on the site. From his Download Agreement: QuoteCommercial Or Non-Profit Use If you want to use my images in commercial or non-profit print or mass distribution, please contact me with your requirements and your timeline. I will require a copy, maybe 2, of whatever it is you're distributing if we come to an agreement. Consider all image use requests denied until I personally notify you to the contrary. so you may have to pay him, or he may just want a copy of your magazine (I'm sure you can stretch to that)

Zeemax 0 #8 April 23, 2004 Mate, find out what he wants if for first. Magazines, especially those like FHM, are very big fans of dramatisation. Maybe the intent is innocent, but just make sure your editor isn't going to top it off 'idiots risk their lives and others...' etc. Do you work for EMAP? FHM uk is the floor below me I guess you're right about the dramatisation, but I'm pretty sure that however stupid the article may be, it won't present skydiving in a negative way. Yeah, it might say we're a bunch of wackos for willingly hurling ourselves from planes, but, to be honest, on a certain level you can't completely disagree with that. Plus I'm real glad we'll be publishing a photo of freeflyers (thanks again, Deuce!) in a country where most whuffos' think skydiving usually involves tights and an accuracy tuffet. Oh, and I work for the company that got the rights to publish FHM in Slovenia- don't know if that means I'm indirectly working for EMAP or not...
