Casquito 0 #1 February 14, 2004 Hey all, I did a forums search on "load organizers" but didn't come up with much. I'm new to skydiving and only have 45 jumps or so, and was wondering what the best way to get into RW was. I was told that asking the load organizers would be the best bet, but at Perris where I jump, they don't seem to have much of a presence. What is their job description exactly? I'm a little hesitant to ask all the experienced jumpers out there if I can get in on their groups since I don't have much experience and don't want to get in their way. I'd appreciate any suggestions you all could give. I just got my new flashy Tonysuit with grippers and booties and everything, but end up jumping solo mostly . That said, Eric (forgot his last name) is super cool and actually was nice enough to jump with me last time I was out there.
orbitjunkie 0 #2 February 14, 2004 Hey Man I have never been to Perris that I had trouble finding an organizer except on some of the slack days. go to Manifest and ask. they will be more than happy to link you up with organizers. Do you mostly go on the weekdays? that might be part of it. also during boogies and events you can find them there every day. for example during the holiday boogie "lemonhead" is there just about every day. Don't be afraid to go up to people and ask. Chances are at least even that they'll jump with ya..I would craig
billvon 2,991 #3 February 14, 2004 >I was told that asking the load organizers would be the best bet, but >at Perris where I jump, they don't seem to have much of a presence. Ask Dan BC. He can set you up with one of the organizers (Mark, Muscat et al.) Will you be there this weekend? We'll probably be there part of Sat and Sun. If you're there, find me and I'll put together a dive. webracer 0 #4 February 14, 2004 Ask Manifest. There should be a low-time organizer at Perris. I know we have them at SDC. I also often just get on loads and find a jumping partner at the ramp (usually a quite inexperienced jumper). Also, make friends with another low-timer, and do some jumps with him/her. Regular Load organizers really come at a more experienced level. You should be looking for four-way or less. If you don't have any luck at Perris, go to Elsinore. Otherwise, come to SDC, I'll do some jumps with you (basically free coaching), I do it all the time. Good luckTroy I am now free to exercise my downward mobility. AggieDave 6 #5 February 14, 2004 Want a serious jump start to your RW skill? Get a Skydive U coach and go through the 20 jump program! I've seen some amazing flying done by folks with only 100 jumps after going through Skydive U!--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Casquito 0 #6 February 14, 2004 Yeah, I'm usually only there during weekdays since I have a funky schedule that doesn't respect holidays or weekends. I will be out there this weekend (Sunday) though since I work the night shift that day from 6pm. Most people I meet out there during the week are pretty 'core and experienced and I rarely meet a low timer like me. Alot of AFFs though, and freeflyers jumping solo, but not too many looking to do RW jumps. If any of you are going out there this weekend, I'd love to jump with you all. ZoneRat 0 #7 February 14, 2004 To bad you're not a hot chic. That always makes it easier. If there's just no fun jumpers around, I'd do like Aggie dave says. That or save up and hit some coached tunnel time. Be careful jumpin' after workin' all night, man... read the signs. If you start doin' stupid shit... it's probably time to turn it in. Mad47 0 #8 February 14, 2004 If you have money, get some coached tunnel time. It will immediately make you popular. Yes, and stay away from hot chicks ... too much distraction, my friend ...
Casquito 0 #9 February 14, 2004 Nah, I just work nights after I jump all day... first things first you know. I'm too tired to jump after I work all night. I just might check out the tunnel at Perris- I've heard good things about it and am sure it'll do me good. Though I don't know about the popularity thing unless entertaining everyone watching by bouncing around off the walls makes me popular. Stay away from hot chicks? Don't know about that one. Though you're right, it'd be alot easier to get people to jump with me if I was a hot chick. Would just have to get used to the "oops I thought those were your grips" line. Glad I'm a guy. I do wish you luck though divin into RW. Bring this thread up from the dead in a few weeks and let us know how it's going. The FAKE KRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMER!!!!!!!!! ZoneRat 0 #12 February 14, 2004 QuoteStay away from hot chicks? Don't know about that one. Yeah. That's horrible advice. HORRIBLE. I did 200 jumps with that freak last year. He's capt of our 4-way team. Gad... sometimes I feel like I don't even KNOW him! Oh well. If you cant BE a hot chic, the next best thing would be to hang out with 'em at the DZ. Maybe get one to take you under her wing. She'll get ya into those kick-ass RW groups. Who knows, with any luck she might even be willing to explore a little tunnel time with ya... so to speak. So hey. Good luck on that.“There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophies.”

I don't know if I qualify as a "hot chick" , but I already told Casquito about Mel's new Ex-Cel Camp at Elsinore that begins this weekend. I told him to come on over the hill and say "hello" whenever he'd like some personalized help. It's true that when I was beginning, sooo many people reached out to me and still do. I don't think that it's necessarily because I am a female, I think that it is more because I wanted and still want to learn and grow in this sport. Because of the nature of our sport, we all get to know each other eventually, anyway. I love that! I hate to generalize, but women newbies (compared to men newbies): 1 - Don't become the instant expert after 30 jumps 2 - Listen 3 - Stay upbeat 4 - Listen 5 - Don't overstep their current skill levels 6 - Oh, and they listen too 7 - Seem ok about doing solos for a while 8 - And I should mention that they listen better Now I don't know which is chicken or which is egg (do women have better attitudes because more people try to train them vs more people try to train them because they have better attitudes?) But it's much more fun to coach someone that is happier and more accepting of input and more accepting of their own mistakes. Some guys do this fine, but in general, a bigger proportion of women skydivers seem to fit this than the proportion of men that do.... That said, if a guy listens and tries hard and doesn't get too down on themselves, that's a real pleasure to work with them too. Just give me someone willing to learn and that doesn't have the sport all tied up into their ego and I'm thrilled to work with them - regardless of gender. I'll stop as soon as their attitudes goes south or if they just plain don't advance at a reasonable pace and especially if they just find excuses for everything. ... rehmwa 2 #21 March 4, 2004 That's a nice thing to say, but really I am agreeing with you. Women get more attention. I'm just saying it might be because of legitimate reasons and not just the lechery many attribute it to. Such as women newbies have a better attitude (generally speaking from the perspective of an experienced person) therefore it's more fun and less work for the coach. Not just because of drooling men looking to get lucky or to impress those women. (yes there is that too, but those same people quickly move onto to freeflying and camera work or quit early and try other things to impress the women.) My perspective is if they are in it to impress women, then they really didn't think through their sport of choice from a target availability perspective. So, most of the people here long enough to be good enough to coach should be given the benefit of the doubt as to their motivations. As individuals, the exceptions to this rule will be clearly apparent right away. I mean, these are my little sisters more than romantic prospects.... That's fortuneate since my wife would have something to say if it wasn't . ... flyangel2 2 #22 March 4, 2004 Bill, From my experience as a LO I hear what you're saying. I can honestly say that the numbers are much higher for females that listen to what I have to teach them, then they are for the males. Most times when I'm working as an LO at a big event, and I point out what the male can do to improve himself, he has an excuse. I give him one more try to fix the problem, then talk to him again. If he has another excuse, I move him to a different group. I would rather work with people that are willing to listen to me.May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. orbitjunkie 0 #23 March 4, 2004 Well I do agree with you also, on many of these points, but you are also speaking from the point of view of an expierenced teacher. You are probably an instructor and Have been for years. I was an Army instructor of a coed school for many years. I used to always say I'd rather teach a city girl to shoot then a country boy..I could make them better. Based on what you have said I am sure you understand the reasons..I agree she will Listen and He will prob try to tell me how he bagged a buck from 300 yds. and all said and done she will bullseye at 800 and he will balme his rifle. But that is structured training..give me this if a male and a female with the same EXP show up at a new DZ.say 50 Jumps each who is going on that six way and who is going solo, or as I said in my post end jump jumping with another coupla guys also with 50 jumps and learn 1/10 what she does that day. Thats just the way it is, now structured training is a little diff, if you can pay you can play. There are exceptions, one of the skydivers I most respect coached me for nothing when I had about 15 jumps, and does this often at our DZ..regardless of gender. and I have seen others do this and many other DZ's. I have a gut feeling you are one of these people thats why I said the nice things. And when I am there of instructor calibur I will keep the faith Craig
