riddler 0 #1 February 29, 2004 Saw an ad for a tunnel in this month's Parachutist. I haven't seen this one before. Has anyone been there and can comment? Looks outdoor and portable. Just a novelty for whuffos? Was this the one at Rantoul last year?Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

WFFC 1 #3 March 1, 2004 QuoteSaw an ad for a tunnel in this month's Parachutist. I haven't seen this one before. Has anyone been there and can comment? Looks outdoor and portable. Just a novelty for whuffos? Was this the one at Rantoul last year? The one at Rantoul was from Lifted Entertainment and as I recall, I believe they are out of Michigan. The BodyFlight.com (or .net) crew ran the events. BTW, the WFFC staffers are dilligently working on new and better toys for this years Convention. Stay tuned for more!----- ~~~Michael
cocheese 0 #4 March 1, 2004 I tried the one at Rantoul last year. I weighed 205 at the time and had on a really baggy suit. Barely got off the floor. The dude running it was small and skinny. He was scaring us because we thought he might blow off center and fall away from the netted area. Breathing diesel exhaust at 110 mph kind of makes ya want to cough. It kicked my butt trying to get some lift. Probably good for kids who like to huff. Don't waste the money until ya see someone your size doin it. tandemking 0 #5 March 1, 2004 I own and operate Snake River Skydiving in Star, Idaho. I have met with the owner of the VWT advertised in Parachutist and I went to look it over. I have not flown in it, because it was JANUARY, but I did make some observations. I have 4100+ dives, 2300 TT flying and 20+ yrs as an aircraft mechanic. Based on that experience, (although I did not "fly" in this VWT), I can say it is merely, "OK". It has a 400 hpo diesel engine and two 3 bladed ultralight propellers for thrust. (72" diameter) It is more of a novelty for whuffos than any type of training tool. Check out the photos on their web site. Larry D-16806
Bodyflight.Net 0 #6 March 1, 2004 Hi, We consult with Vertical Velocity and the owner for Bodyflight Network. At this time we are personally unable to verify the "actual" speed of the air but I can say it's not one of the slower ones. It's a small machine and it has no safety cushions of any type. First time flyers are attatched to a make shift harness system. Without visiting personally, judging from video, photos, and talking with Shea, this isn't a great freefall trainer, but could prove to be fun on other levels for beginners, whuffos as well as seasoned tunnel rats! This is not the one from last year at Rantoul which is not great for skydivers either. This year at Rantoul we're bringing the Adren-L-N tunnel which is VERY fast and very skydiver friendly. It also has no cushions but it does provide wall to wall air and enough room for two way RW and plenty of speed for freefly.
