Magikchild 0 #1 August 23, 2003 So you've been freeflying since your 20th jump & have several hundred skydives to your credit, your a decent freeflyer. Good. Wanna be versatile enough to freefly or flat-fly on a 3D dive? Great. The only time you fly on your belly is the 5 or 10 seconds before pull-time? Bingo. Carl Daugherty, at the behest of your humble Narrator, has initiated a course of instruction for those of you, like myself, who meet the above criteria. Cost of instruction: pay your slot. Carl is one of those skydivers who just wants "To give back" to the sport. He certainly has the skills to coach the likes of us, as his list of medals and trophys is far too numerous to list here. The group is limited, and membership is not automatic. Admission will come after an evaluation dive with one or more members of The Underground and is subject to peer review. We want people who have already shown a commitment to the sport, so to be considered, you should own your own gear, have around 200 jumps or more, be safety conscious, a good tracker and not live with your parents... Feel free to apply if you suck ( or just lack experience) at belly flying and are a half-decent freeflyer. If you plan on being in DeLand, let us know, and we'll set something up. Our schedule is flexible, and you dont have to be a local to get in on the fun. A weekend, a week or whatever is cool. One-on-one coaching is also available with Carl for those interested. Contact Nurse Tim ( or Evil Tim...whatever) at Skydive DeLand..386-738-3539 or email me at Magikchild@dropzone.com if interested. I'm full-time staff so I'm usually there, leave a contact number if I'm not, and remember... . . "Belly-flying...It's not just for pull-time anymore." Carl is one of our sport's leading mentors. I have never seen him make a judgement on someone in advance. Carl will give everyone a fair chance! Tinkerbelle 5 #8 March 1, 2004 OK, now everyone who is here for the "Skydiving Underground", please avert your eyes for a moment while I talk to "JUSTSAYNO", who ever you are... I am just speaking to the "JUSTSAYNO" person... Gee, that was intense! I didn't like some of the stuff you said..., and I would protest that you don't seem to know me that well. But I do appreciate your support and encouragement which I did get out of your post on that other thread. I would however like to take a moment to defend my hostility toward and protest your defense of the monster in Reno... even the USPA knows what I'm talking about... they were horrified when they went up there after a recent death and found basically a bomb going off... luckily they put a stop to it, but unfortunately the USPA is not a government or legal institution, so all they could do was slap his hand and tell him to stop, which of course he just ignored since he was never a member of USPA to begin with 'cause he could never live up to their basic safety standards and requirements. I have tried to appeal to the local DA and the FAA with all kinds of support from distraught families who have been destroyed by the monster, but there is just this skydiving exclusion that makes it above and external to the law! Since people just expect skydiving to be dangerous, they simply refuse to look into matters of possible homocide or intentional malace. This needs to be addressed and stopped, and what better group to rise up to the occasion than the skydiving community itself, since after all that monster is using our sport as a weapon! It is so hard to right such a wrong all my myself. Had I been aware of the people who were harmed after I, I would have been able to lend them my expertise on the issue. As it was the only one who got anywhere was one lady, Carl Colip, whose husband was killed there in Reno. Apparently he cut away at 200 feet from a parachute that had blown up, the same one that had killed others, just sewn back together there after. Carol's husband cut away so high/or so low, since he was not even equipt with an altimeter, so he had no idea where he was or what he needed to do in his emergency situation, that would not have even happened to begin with had he been given an airworthy canopy! This very thing, having been equipt with unairworthy canopies, no altimeters, and inadequate emergeny procedure training was something that lead to the paralysis and deaths of many others at Instead SkySports. It made me sick to read reports about those incidents and talk to he families of the deceased and those people now paralyzed who blamed themselves for not knowing where they were in the sky, to know if and when to deal with emergencies that would not have even been an issue had they had reliable parachute material above their heads. It made me sad to tell them that it was not their fault for not being able to adequately judge the ground on their first jump, but that that is why anything that is not inherently built to fly with it's own internal guage depends on a thing called an altimeter, at least 'till they get a feeling for how to properly judge such an unnatural distance. Even with that acquired, people still depend on altimeters and even audibles to alert them to their altitude. This is not something that should be expected of a first time static liner! It just makes me so angry that people have the leeway legally to abuse our sport to be able to knowingly and intentionally commit homcide without anyone calling them on it legally! I don't care how much bullshit I get for standing up on this issue. Someone needs to, and I gladly put my neck out there for all those who were ignorant and vulnerable at the time thinking they were paying for and volunteering for what they thought was an actual, modern, safety conscious skydiving experience. Had so many of them known what they were getting into, they would have gladly driven the extra hour to go to a real skydiving facility like either "The Parachute Center" in Lodi or "Skydance Skydiving" in Sacratomatoe. Had they known to go there, many of them would be alive and mobile today. Something needs to be done to alert the public to the dangers of bad people mascarading as skydiving facilities. It makes me sad that people on this forum just attacked me personally rather than lending a hand and info and advice to help those who have been wronged by our sport, and who along with the authorities then blame our sport rather than the bad seeds out there who give our sport a bad name! OK, end of story.... I agree with everything you said, but me thinks you came down a little hard on me. I am not as far gone as that, and am quite cognisant of much of your advice. It was well put however. Just a little unduely harsh. Also, granted Carl can be hard to get along with, and he is not a spring chicken any more, but I think he is the handsomist man I have ever met, far more alluring than any 20 or 30 year old! And like they say, well, that just leaves all the more for me to enjoy! I am happy to be of service taking him off your hands to provide him all the love, adoration, and desire he could possibly benefit from. Lenny and I love and appreciate our man, forever and always! You guys who are interested in the Skydiving Underground and the experienced coaching they can receive through their participation there in can return to the discussion. Sorry about the aside. OK, end of story... Thanks for the positive input. I did manage to look beyond the negative to extrapolate the positive. I appreciate your support and encouragement. That is the end of the ublic servive announcement! Back to Carl and the Skydivig Underground... So there we were getting incredible coaching and... SkymonkeyONE 4 #9 March 1, 2004 And that has exactly what to do with the topic of this thread? Please keep the threads in this specified forum on track and keep the off-topic rambling to the talkback forum. Chuck
billvon 2,994 #10 March 1, 2004 Annie, you've posted the same thing twice now. There's nothing wrong with telling people about a DZ that you think is a bad/dangerous one, but there's not much to be gained by posting the same thing over and over.
