Hazarrd 1 #1 February 16, 2004 What are USPA's rules on doing tandems from objects other than aircraft, such as helicopters or balloons? I've seen pictures of tandem balloon jumps, but no idea if they were in US or not. Thanks. .-.

I've seen pictures of tandem balloon jumps, but no idea if they were in US or not If it's an aircraft and you're high enough to do it safely, I don't think there is any prohibition on tandems from balloons and helicopters. In fact, I think it's a great idea. Sign me up! The base tandem is not for me. How would you like the passenger to go into the flail mode right as you're trying to track away from a cliff? pilotdave 0 #7 February 16, 2004 Yeah, balloons and helicopters are just as "legal" as planes. I remember seeing pics a while ago of Ted Strong doing a tandem BASE at bridge day years ago. Times have a'changed. Dave
Unstable 9 #8 February 16, 2004 I have seen several Tandems done from a Helecopter. When I was packing In Rantoul, the guy I was Packing for took the Chopper Staff for Tandems from their Sikorsky (Spelling) which got me (the packer) a few free jumps =========Shaun ==========
pilotdave 0 #9 February 16, 2004 You sure it wasn't a Bell? Speaking of Sikorsky though, I got to check out their newest helicopter last week, the S-92. It'd make an awesome jump ship...rear ramp and all! Dave

John Maybe the tandem passengers are not noobs. There are reasons to do tandems besides introducing someone to skydiving. -=-=-=-=- Pull.

riggerrob 643 #13 February 17, 2004 Back in 1987 I did three or four tandem jumps from an Aerospatiale Alouette III helicopter. We turned the co-pilot's sear to face aft, then dove out. Kind of cramped, but otherwise not a big deal.
