DanglesOZQld 0 #1 December 18, 2003 I am beginning to feel like a tired old bastard saying things like "in my day..........." IN MY DAY 1) I drove 2 1/2 hrs each way to a dz I loved and would not whine because weather or the amount of people at the dz kept me from jumping onto the next load available 2) Some jumps would be a repeat even though (in your highly experienced student jumper position) you thought they were not or that you had spent enough money on that stage 3) People would learn the aspects of canopy flight and how to pack properly and gain a lot of experience before downsizing. 4) The colors of your rig or jumpsuit would not equate to your jump number/s or ability to do a certain skydive. I could make a list of a lot more!!! I guess I AM an old bastard!! BSBD -Mark (33). "A Scar is just a Tattoo with a story!!!"
gus 1 #2 December 18, 2003 Come on grandad, it's not all that bad is it? As a relative newbie in this sport I have a 300 mile round trip to my dz. I've spent many days sat around due to bad weather or lack of people and I might bitch a bit but generally I'm just happy to be there. I repeated an AFF level and had no complaints. I don't jump a tiny eliptical. I learnt to pack during AFF. I bought my first rig despite the fact that it was purple. And I don't think that any of that makes me unusual. I'm sure you do already but instructors in general are in a better position than most to actually do something about these things that you're talking about. Help people that are struggling to pack. Talk to people about canopy control. Share that knowledge! Gus (24)OutpatientsOnline.com
Blahr 0 #3 December 18, 2003 QuoteThe colors of your rig or jumpsuit would not equate to your jump number/s or ability to do a certain skydive. I've never heard of this one. Where do they do this and what is the secret color coding scheme? For all I know, my colors are proclaiming that I'm the ultimate expert! I'm a long way from that but I'm not changing my colors even if they do say that What would Royal Blue, Gold, and Black signify? With my luck it means I'm a putz

Ron 10 #5 December 18, 2003 QuoteI've never heard of this one. Where do they do this and what is the secret color coding scheme? Think about he guy with 200 jumps and all matching gear. And that has patches all over his J/S that makes him look sponsored. These guys kill me. Blahr 0 #6 December 18, 2003 I have only 65 jumps and my gear all matches. Kinda. And I had to paint my own helmet to make it fit the color scheme No patches though and I only own 1 of each thing!
Blahr 0 #7 December 18, 2003 QuoteI think those are the "guaranteed to have a spinning mal every time" colors. Matt ----- Well, I did have premature brake release last week. Did a bit of spinning, yes. Perhaps its time to consider a color change...
Ron 10 #8 December 18, 2003 QuoteI have only 65 jumps and my gear all matches. Kinda. pilotdave 0 #10 December 18, 2003 White is the color of an expert. Non-experts don't wear white, they wear pre-brown. Dave

Gus (24) As a newbie, I appreciate it when people with a helluva lot more experience than me give me advice. I ask billions of questions and even when my instructors asked me why I wasn't downsizing, I said, "I want to get good at the large canopies first." When it comes to knowledge, dispense at will, I am one student that will listen!~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Fly the friendly skies...^_^...})ii({...^_~... Due to some of my landings, I was advised to avoid anything close to white!!! Maybe in the future...~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Fly the friendly skies...^_^...})ii({...^_~... So is it the patches, the colour co-ordinated outfits or both you have a problem with. My suits and rig and Canopy are all colour matched. I puchased the container 2nd hand, and matched the other things around it. It seemed kinda dumb to get a suit made that would look shite against the rigYou are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS! How's yours doing? Ron 10 #15 December 23, 2003 No its the attitude that goes with it. Like I said I know a guy that has different helmuts for diffferent jumpsuits... vonSanta 0 #16 December 24, 2003 Ah, the pink and purple rig I use clash nicely with a black t-shirt or grey fleece shirt. Which crashes perfectly with my soon-to-arrive yellow and white cargo pants. Top it off with a black Bonehead helmet and yellow or black goggles and you have a study in colour crashing. Now I'll just have to add those patches people talk about and I will indeed look great.
