helldog 0 #1 December 19, 2003 I am going to be jumping a several different elevations over the X-break and was wondering how much the change in elevation from my home drop zone will affect the flight characteristics of my canopy. I know that higer elevatioin will be faster than lower....just looking for more quantitative answer. The elevation at my home DZ is approximately 4300MSL (fast air) Thanks Jim
FrogNog 1 #2 December 19, 2003 This post covers density altitude. The canopy performance excerpt relevant to your question is "To create the same amount of lift, for each 1000 ft increase in density-altitude the true airspeed will increase by 2 percent." The post in that link also gives some numbers for computing density altitude, so you won't have to just guess. Further details about performance are not easily quantifiable. -=-=-=-=- Pull. twnsnd 1 #3 December 19, 2003 Your canopy will fly as if it is one size smaller. Period. Be safe. Peace -We are the Swoophaters. We have travelled back in time to hate on your swoops.-

Are you going to DZs with lower elevation than 4300? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!
Kris 0 #5 December 20, 2003 QuoteI think his canopy will be flying slower. You are be correct. Unless, in the rare chance (which I doubt), he might be jumping somewhere higher than 4300 above sea level. I don't think there's too many places that you can do that at. Anyone know which DZ has the highest field elevation?Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™

Brrrrr It was in the 60s yesterday and 50s today. I left my fleece on the ground and just wore a short sleeve T-shirt under my jump suit. Of course we still have the biggest problem with West Nile, the flu has killed a few people, and the nice weather isn't enough to make you move here.
