skyyhi 0 #27 February 3, 2004 I figured as much. . .most of them like the thrill as much as those of us who actually jump out. . .lol!________________________________________ Take risks not to escape life… but to prevent life from escaping. ~ A bumper sticker at the DZ FGF #6 Darcy
quade 4 #28 February 3, 2004 Quote Sorry Quade, but were my dad still piloting aircraft, a challenge like this would put him in the cockpit FASTER THAN LIGHTNING just to see what he could do. I think you missed both the point of my statement and the points upon which the drop zones make their claims. If, for instance, SLV makes the claim that they have the fastest jumpship, it's really only for one reason, to help their business. They would have no interest whatsoever, in being proven wrong, therefore they would have no interest whatsoever in any sort of contest . . . unless of course, they were absolutely, positive they and only they were going to win. By leaving the facts ambigous, they can claim whatever the heck they want.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

nbblood 0 #30 February 3, 2004 QuoteHow is hypoxia more of a problem on a rapid ascent? Sparky -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Maybe he meant "the bends". Yeah, maybe hypoxia is not the term I'm looking for. What I do know is after that rapid ascent I wasn't exactly feeling "normal". Whatever it does to you, it is somewhat disorienting, I know from experience. I imagine it would affect individuals differently too. NathanBlues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.
ChasingBlueSky 0 #31 February 4, 2004 Don't forget that pilot skill needs to be factored into this as well. Just because you own a Dodge Viper doesn't mean someone in a Vette can't beat you in a race. Gotta have the skills...._________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again..... Antithesis 0 #32 February 4, 2004 QuoteWhat about the Boeing 747-400 that Harrison Ford's staff jumped out of in Air Force One? yes We're talking about conventional jumpships though. When I jumped the c 130 on the igh speed exit, They announced that it too was the fastest jumpship. I vote for mike.. BillyVance 34 #33 February 5, 2004 I agree that Mike Mullins has the fastest jumpship. At least the fastest I've ever jumped from. On a 23,000 foot load with 9 other jumpers, we passed through 15,000 feet in 5.5 minutes. 6.5 minutes is pretty normal with full loads. You want to talk about fastest jumpship in the future, go see Perris' new DC-9, when they get the paperwork and certification cleared on that baby, it'll supposedly take you to 13,000 feet in 2.5 minutes. I've also heard mullins king air's engines can go faster, but it would damage the air frame. MB 3528, RB 1182
Foursprouts 0 #35 February 5, 2004 You cannot get the bends on a fast asscent to jump altitude. If you scuba dive at 30 ft for 30 minuites you dont really need to worry about your asscent. That would be the equivelant of climbing out of the atmosphere in about 2 minuites, so going to 15,000 in 6 minuites will not affect you. As far as I can tell SLV is in buisiness to make money and is in no way interested in large numbers of fun jumpers as it is not as profitable and there are more lawsuites associated with it. Alot of the stuff on the website is stretching the truth but going back to what I said earlier, the place is there to make money and how many first time tandem jumpers would know any different. I am not saying it is moral but thats just the way it is. Their caravan gets to altidude and back down in 24 min full and in about 6 min with one tandem. brabzzz 0 #37 February 5, 2004 I've got to agree the An-72 was DAMN fast!!!! except it had to keep waiting at several altitudes for permission to go higher. You'd check your alti at 11K and start faffing around with your goggles/helmet etc - then there was a sudden rush of acceleration and the alti needle would speed round to 16k. The last 4K literally took no time at all. Most importantly though, it has a HARD pair of jet engines! The 2.5 min DC-9 sould be nice... --------------------------------------- Ex-University of Bristol Skydiving Club www.skydivebristoluni.com
