mbrajk 0 #1 January 26, 2004 I noticed some old strings about life insurance. Did anybody find any policies that were worth while? My current Whole Life won't pay up if I my death is skydiving related. I'm worried about how they will interpret it. IF I get killed by an unrelated incident, but I'm wearing a chute . . . will they pay? Makes me wonder. Makes me want to find supplemental or negotiate a ridder. -Shack

larry 0 #3 January 26, 2004 There is an insurance that I got through the USPA. It is accidental death insurance and will pay if death is by skydiving as long as everything is done in accordance with TSO standards and FAR regulations. Anyway it went up to $135 quarterly for $100k effective 1/15/04. rdesilets 0 #4 January 28, 2004 My life insurance policy is with USAA. The will cover me 100% in the event my death is skydiving related. I had them actually send me a letter to confirm - that I put in the safe deposit box.
firstime 0 #5 January 28, 2004 not true unless your policy is under 2 yrs old. The 1st day of the third year they have to pay regardless of the peril. Medical insurance can include exclusions, not life. By the way what is a ridder??
harryskydives 0 #6 January 29, 2004 Different states have different rules. In Oregon if you get your policy before you skydive they can not go back and change it. So it would pay if you were killed skydiving. If when you fill out the app and say you sky dive they can waiver the death benefit, do to stated activities. If you skydive and lie, it could be a material misrep, and the might deny the death benefit. But if you quit skydiving, applied for life insurance, then started jumping again the 2 year rule might work. You just have to keep checking with life companies. Most agents will not know the answer, they will have to check with the underwirter. It would affect the cost in any case. Maybe an upcharge or not qualify for ultra preferred. What state do you live in? Don't run out of altitude and experience at the same time...
firstime 0 #7 January 29, 2004 I am in New York and I did make a wrong assumption in response to that post. We can't put exclusions on the death benefit , with the exception of a crime. The exclusions we can make are for waiver of the premium do to disability. I should get more familar with mandates from State to State before shooting myself in the foot again. harryskydives 0 #8 January 29, 2004 So in New York if you apy for life insurance, everything else being equal: a skydiver and a non skydiver. The rates are the same and no skydiving exclusion? Ps Are you a insurance agent? Don't run out of altitude and experience at the same time...
skychic68 0 #9 January 29, 2004 I have this policy as well. Insurance has sky-rocketed out of control. No one can afford to do anything anymore. Has anyone heard any more on the issue about HMO's not paying up if a person is injured doing high risk sports. This was an issue a couple years back. At safety day, we had everyone sign letters and send them in to revolt this. Justa wondrin'Que sera sera
firstime 0 #10 January 30, 2004 No the rates are not the same. If you tell them on the app that your are a skydiver they will issue the policy with 40% increase in premium. If you don't tell them you are a skydiver and you die within 2 yrs of the issuance of the policy while skydiving and they determine that in fact you are and have been in the sport, they will search all the data that is available. (within that 2 yr period). Say you did a tandem 1 year ago and didnt disclose that on the application and you did second tanden, say last week and died from that jump. They will search these data basis (USPA) with a vengence and if they come up one jump in the past 2 yrs your beneficary is going to pay your finals themselves. The first day after the second year of the policy they are on it... period .,, suicide, skydiving, drunken car accident,, pissing on the third rail... and any cronic illness that you may or may not have had at the time of the application. I am just making the public aware of State guide lines with the non disclosure clause with Life insurance in the State of NY.

harryskydives 0 #12 January 30, 2004 I am an insurance agent. I write Life Insurance. Insuring pilots is no big deal, No upcharge if current. Like I said, if you get your life insurance before you start skydiving, No problem. But we are already skydivers. Most life companies seem to up charge or exzempt skydiving. Uspa offers some life insurance, and group plans would not, (must read the contract) Don't run out of altitude and experience at the same time...
