aliengirl 0 #1 January 2, 2004 I thought it would be interesting to start a list of random tips/words of wisdom/facts for newbies (or anyone, for that matter). When I first started jumping I would have loved to come across a bunch of skydivers contributing different tidbits of skydiving information in one place. Here, I'll start with a few of my own...you all please add anything that you would have wanted to hear when you were just starting out. 1. A "whuffo" is a non-skydiver (i.e., "wha' fo' you jump from dem planes?") 2. Pick a few select people at your drop zone that you trust and ask THEM any skydive-related questions you may have. 3. When packing, although every step is important, keep in mind these three things: stow brakes, collapse pilot chute and make sure slider is up. 4. Learn to enjoy buying beer because you will have a lot of "firsts."
skydivexxl 0 #2 January 2, 2004 5. Green bottles / imports are not neccesarily better. 6. Listen to everything, mthen check info w/ someone you trust 7. Fly the pattern 8. Do not fly your canopy or your body up the line of flight... Blog Clicky

selbbub78 0 #11 January 3, 2004 if you use the "F word" expect to buy beer soon afterwards (usually that day) also when learning how to pack, and you are going slow and taking your time, watch out for the jokesters who will make you think you're doing everything wrong, just so you have to redo everything that you already did (happened to me 3 times in a row )"Women fake orgasms - men fake whole relationships" – Sharon Stone "The world is my dropzone" (wise crewdog quote) "The light dims, until full darkness pierces into the world."-KDM

Select those trusted few people, not because they give you the answere you "like" but because they give you the answer you *need*. DALAILAMA 0 #13 January 3, 2004 Learn from mistakes, yours as well as others. If you doubt the conditions, and don't know if you should jump, Look for the smartest, most trustworthy person on the DZ that doesn't make his or her $ from skydiving. If that person is in the bar.....Join him or her! diablopilot 2 #14 January 3, 2004 Hang out at the bonfire. Bring food, and beer. If you can't bring food, beer will do. Or Tequila. Socialize. Get to know people, and involve yourself in what's going on. Don't wait to be noticed. No is not always negative. Deal with it, it's not a bad thing. Ask how you can turn "No" into a "Yes" and with a little experience and work it will happen. Don't take it personal if you're not invited every time. Don't be discouraged at a lack of instant success. Have fun.---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. Mad47 0 #22 January 3, 2004 QuoteI thought it would be interesting to start a list of random tips/words of wisdom/facts for newbies I am afraid there will be a lot of BS in a list like that, because it will be flooded with advice from people who do not know sh!t but believe they know a lot. There are always experienced people with good attitude at your DZ or at dz.com. Listening to them is more rewarding than trying to select the truth from the "list of skydiving wisdom"
