Shindagrl 0 #1 December 1, 2003 I'm watching "Cutaway", which I really like, I suppose b/c it has so many shots of actual skydiving in it as compared to other movies. I know very little about the different disciplines, since I've only made three jumps, but I think I've figured out a few things......namely, the tighter the suit, the faster you fall......the looser, the more freedom of speed you have, be it fast or slow desired (and in that statement, I may have answered my own question). So, here they are, a speed star team. The goal is speed. I notice their jumpsuits are pretty loose (and most are lacking the arm grip-thingies, which doesn't make much sense if you PLAN on grabbing onto someone). Do they not wear tighter suits in that disclipline so that they can alter their speed whichever way they need to???? Had I not read the notes on the creator of the movie and his involvement in the sport over the years, I'd just add it up to Hollywood error (like in "ER"). But this has me befuddled. Thanks, and blue skies to all---- Shinda An audience of 35 head of cattle was not exactly what I had in mind for that last landing.........
JeffD 0 #2 December 1, 2003 Whats your definition of speed? The main goal of a jumpsuit is to keep you falling at the same rate as the other jumpers in your group. So if you think that the first people should wear a floaty(baggy) suit and the "last ones out" should wear tight suits so they can catch up quickly, they will, but then they will fall below the formation and be lost until pull time. billvon 2,991 #3 December 1, 2003 The term "speedstar" refers to the time it takes to build the star, not the speed at which it falls. Whatever helps a team build a star quickly, whether it's tight suits to get higher fallrates (higher fallrate = more air to work with = more control) or baggier suits with swoop cords (more available drag = greater ability to stop one's swoop before taking out the formation.) gremlin 0 #5 December 1, 2003 An RW jumpsuit should be designed to the way that you fly so that you are falling at the same rate as your friends in a neutral body position. A friend of mine recently bought a new jumpsuit that is too fast and he now falls like a brick past everyone. Once you are happy about how you fly discuss it with a decent dealer and they will advise you on what is best for you so you can get the best out of your skydiving.I'm drunk, you're drunk, lets go back to mine....
