JVig 0 #1 November 11, 2003 Unfortunately I find myself in need of a total hip replacement and want to hear from any Drs and others who have experienced this, or something similar, and continued to jump...which I intend to do. Any encouragement is appreciated. I'm scared shitless. -------------------------------------------------- Just remember.....if the world didn't suck, we'd all fall off. Shindagrl 0 #2 November 11, 2003 I'm not a doctor, but I am an RN, and I would say that whoever does your surgery DEFINITELY needs to know what you plan on doing with that hip when you're healed! I know that different docs have different techniques, and some will use a bigger joint than others would in the same patient. If your doc was prone to keeping a bit more space in the joint by using a smaller prosthesis (there's a reason for that school of thought, but it's escaping me at the moment), it could up your chances of dislocation when you hit the ground. Good luck!!! Shinda An audience of 35 head of cattle was not exactly what I had in mind for that last landing.........
ypelchat 0 #3 November 11, 2003 Good luck on the surgery. I have an aunt, that had a hip replacement last year. The surgery has been painful for her, but it improved her quality of life 100% She would do it again if she had to. Yves.

jmpnkramer 0 #5 November 11, 2003 I had a total hip replacement in June of 2001. The Doctor did not cement mine in. If you plan on Skydiving I highly recommend that you have it done the same way. It takes longer to heal but in the long run it is worth it. The reason being is that if it needs to be replaced again because of wear it is easier. I am not a Doctor. I am only describing to you the way it was to me. I waited 11 Months before I started skydiving again. I have made around 200+ jumps since I started back. You can PM me if you would like to know more. Laters, KRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The REAL KRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMER! "HESITATION CAUSES DEATH!!!" billvon 2,991 #8 November 24, 2003 Jan Davis (of Lodi) had two total hips. She was an active videographer until her death few years ago. Her death was caused by a reserve snagging on a camera helmet, and was unrelated to her artificial hips.
linestretch 0 #9 November 25, 2003 We have a guy at my home DZ in Oregon who had a hip replacement 2 winters ago (I think), and since then, the dude is jumpin his ass off. He can now ride his bike, run out a landing, and move without showing any signs of pain. He is one of the regular camera guys at the DZ, and I know he is very happy with his decision.my pics & stuff!
