how is skydiving not unlike being addicted to crack?

we dont like going without the "drug" for too long or else we get withdrawls, we would rather eat like shit than not be able to jump-or go hungry, non "user" friends can get left by the wayside as we spend more time with other addicts, some of us beg borrow or steal to sustain our habit, there is nothing like waking up and smelling the smoking pipe of "jet fuel" first thing in the morning-or last thing at night for that matter, nice expensive cars/houses/tv's/partners can get dropped in the name of following our habit etc etc

Crack will destroy your body, mind, and spirit.

Skydiving brings you to life.

I am the person that feels the difference...I spent a few years in my life doing (beeing addicted to) lots of drugs like THC,LSD,XTC, cocaine etc. and than it took me 3 years of my life and lots of money to get the hell out of this shit! It was a long way with lots of hard moments to understand you become just a machine that needs drugs to work and there's nothin worth it... And one day during my therapy I decided to do somethin interesting and different than other previous things in my life... I started skydiving and after the first time I realised THAT'S IT! At that moment I have over 500 jumps and flying headdown is the best feeling I could ever have! Blue skies and freefly become the essence of my life...

Have you seen pictures of crack users when they aren't on crack?

It isn't a pretty site. Sure, on the ground we're not as happy as in the air, but I'll never be as unhealthy as a crack-user.

Have you looked at us? Skydivers are beautiful people - in the plane, in the air, on the ground. :D

Skydiving's still legal. Skydiving doesn't destroy your mind or body (provided you open every time...). You don't need to smoke to skydive. I don't know anyone who's had to resort to burglary, mugging, or prostitution to keep jumping. The cops have never lured me into a "hey buddy, wanna jump ?" sting.

Finally, Nancy Reagan never said, "Just say no to skydiving".

I don't know from crack in particular, since I have been clean and sober since before it became popular. From where I sit it all looks about the same.

My personal observation is that the biggest difference between skydiving and narcotics is that with heroin the first one's always free.

Hmmmm... I think you're just exaggerating here...:|
but if you're not... i'd reply "speak for yourself, my friend" [:/]:oB|
Sure jumping is and has always been a high priority,,for many,, myself included.., BUT as any responsible person knows....
"you have to Work if you wanna Play"..[:/]. and so jumping can serve as a REASON to be productive, Hold down a fulltime job, assume grown up responsibilities,,, and as incentive to meet all these demands,,,,,,, In order,,,, that we can go jumping on days off.... and feel just fine about it....
So i'd say that it is VERY UNLIKE crack... which decimates the user... which hollows out the user's mind and spirit,,, and may leave the user no better off than a common "whuffo" who has never experienced the pure , and clean, and fulfilling sense of accomplishment,,, which a skydive delivers on a regular basis....
Crack is nasty stuff,,,, very insidiousB|>:(.........skydiving is our RELIEF from all things, nasty.................providing that it is just one part of a well balanced lifestyle.....and NOT the ONLY thing for which we get out of bed each day........:)skydive softly, skydive often, skydive with friends

As one whose motto for a long time was "better living through chemistry," I was trying to come up with a concise way to contrast the positive nature of sky diving against the destructiveness of crack and other addictions. I couldn't have said it any better than Blahr. Thanks, bro.

It is interesting in the similar way that both are viewed by outsiders. Both cost a huge amount of money, in both you end up predominantly socialising within that group, society as a whole has no idea why people start on it or why they don't give up to lead normal lives and admission to following both can adversely affect your chances at a job interview. The main difference is that you wouldn't invite your mum to a crack house but you would invite her to a DZ (making sure she is out before the party starts- in case she can't tell the difference - incoherent wafflings about floating in the sky and soaring with the birds through the clouds! ;))
I'm drunk, you're drunk, lets go back to mine....
