larry 0 #1 November 2, 2003 I got to admit I watch it if nothing is on and the synopsis says there is skydiving. What pisses me off is that they just add their own total bullshit uninformed commentary to add dramatic tension. Just saw an AFF jump with two instructors and one student. When the student pulls as normal and the instructors fall away the narrator says, “He lost his instructors, and is in trouble.” He wasn’t in trouble till he decided to cutaway at about 300ft for no good reason. (tree landing under partially inflated reserve, luckily was uninjured) It’s not just skydiving, they do it with most every clip. It’s like porno, I like the action, but please just shut the f**k up! “Now click your heels together 3 times so you can return to Kansas to live in poverty with your teetotaling, dirt farming aunt and uncle!” paraphrased Prof. Farnsworth

nicrussell 0 #9 November 3, 2003 Of course their own commentary to make it sound more dramatic. Most media will. Skydivers and BASE jumpers who send in these videos should be a little more responsible in the sale of these video clips. Send in fun cool and exciting innvative clips and leave the carnage for your own personal video collection. Nic Russell
JeffD 0 #10 November 3, 2003 My favorite was the student doing AFF 1. "Now this is this guys first jump, but he was scared so he asked two people to go up with him the first time to help him out." This was the one with the black guy who cutaway at ~ 100' over trees (he survived).

billvon 3,072 #12 November 3, 2003 >I hate the a**holes at Real TV . . . Then don't watch it. There have been some very good pieces done on National Geographic, Wings and the History Channel on parachuting. If you watch those instead, it won't piss you off. And if everyone follows your lead, RealTV will go off the air since they can't sell commercials on a show no one watches. >It’s like porno, I like the action, but please just shut the f**k up! Ah! Well, if that's the problem, just turn the volume off.
flyangel2 2 #13 November 3, 2003 Real T.V. did a nice piece in 1999 with Kate Cooper and Jump for the Cause. Nothing dramatic, just the facts. Drama is what sells, just like the trash magazines at the check out counters.May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. nicrussell 0 #18 November 3, 2003 There are some real good peices on real TV. Some funny some groundbreaking moments of skydiving and BASE jumping shared with the Non -Jumpers of America (NJA?) in a positive light. Those video clips and stories are helpful to the sport, whereas carnage is not. Nic
FrogNog 1 #19 November 4, 2003 Dude, use the mute button. A lot of TV gets way better without the voice-overs. I admit, car racing doesn't have the same qualities without the engine sound. That's sad. But it's worth it to me to stop having to hear about how slippery the white line is, or whose wife is suffering the trials of a sick housecat, so I can concentrate on the important stuff. Plus if it gets too quiet you can just make the engine noises yourself, and then it's pretty much back to normal. Skydiving, luckily, doesn't have important noises in the first place. Not that I've noticed in 37 jumps anyway. It's all "BRRRR" in the 182 and that wind noise that switches my ears off in freefall. That's about it. Hit mute and throw in the occasional "DOOR!". -=-=-=-=- Pull.

kelpdiver 2 #21 November 4, 2003 Quote There have been some very good pieces done on National Geographic, Wings and the History Channel on parachuting. Last week there was a very good segment on OLN TV (607 or so on Directv) covering paired canopy acrobatics. Clearly the show was attracted to this relatively dangerous form, but it was well presented and it was noted that the contest was done over water to reduce the risks. The show went on to do hang gliding - unfortunately I have no idea what it was called. The summary didn't list skydiving either. But I think I will set up a tivo wishlist with skydiving and see what pops up.
mccordia 74 #22 November 5, 2003 Real TV also had a nice piece on Dwain (doing some base-jumps with lots of flips/twists from quite low exits) The commentairy was stuff like "while it looks cool, it's a dangerous sport, but the way dwain does it makes it almost look normal" It was all love and praise...JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
