vonSanta 0 #26 September 23, 2003 QuoteYikes! Funny how things go into slow motion at the moment of truth. LOL LOL yeah the "oh shit" mode does some odd things to time. I was so absorbed in studying this ripcord. Some kind of odd curiosity crept in and I began to think about how it looked on the ground when I packed the chute. Had time to wonder whether the wind would bend it so it looked smaller. Wondered how it could break. Thought about putting it inside my t-shirt before going for emergency operation, so I wouldn't lose it. Threw that thought away - not because it'd take time, but because if I had to pull cutaway and silver, it would be because it was broken and then it'd be no good anyway. Then the canopy opened and time returned to its normal pace. It's just weird. pegasus 0 #27 September 24, 2003 I actually had a kinda groundrush sorta thought thingy happen today... I am a relativly new jumper...made #26 today, & I have been pulling at 4000' for my last few jumps. Well today for some weird reason I looked at the ground as I was reaching for my hacky and realized just how fast it was coming at me...kinda werid I lthought... vonSanta 0 #28 September 24, 2003 Heh or how about "oh so THAT is the exact spot I'm gonna impact on if I don't get a working canopy out. Hope it's soft". Santa Von GrossenArsch I only come in one flavour ohwaitthatcanbemisunderst
lawrocket 3 #29 September 24, 2003 Yeah, the weirdest thought I had in freefall was a few months ago, jumping with the illustrious Shark as my coach. I had a short spot, so we left early. I go through the dive flow, and planned to lock onto altimeter at 6k, and deploy at 4,500. 6k I lock on, and then I look down at the I-15 freeway. Yeah, almost straight down at it and being blown closer. My first thought was, "If I double mal, someone's in for a surprise." After I chuckled, I realized, "Oh, shit! I'm a mile off!" I waved and pulled, and was under canopy by 4,500. The whole chuckle to "Oh, shit!" took all of one or two seconds. I just couldn't believe my thought process on that. Yeah, and I learned more about spotting that day than ever before or since. My wife is hotter than your wife.
airdweller 0 #30 September 24, 2003 I remember one time in freefall thinking of myself as an electron from an excited state undergoing fluorescence and falling down to the ground state, and wondering if I was glowing. Then when I deployed my main, I imagined myself as the electron moving to the tripelt excited state, thus causing me to undergo phosphorescence, which of course is a slower process then fluorescence. Hence I was able to land safely.------------------------------------------------------ "From the mightiest pharaoh to the lowliest peasant, who doesn't enjoy a good sit?" C. jdog 0 #31 September 24, 2003 A friend of mine, with many thousand jumps, told me that he was climbing out the other day and during the exit count he thought he had his camelback on instead of his rig. He actually had to reach back and check.

Vertifly 0 #36 September 25, 2003 Are you using any prescription medication? You shouldn't be jumping after you take it. However, can I have some of what your on?

kaerock 1 #38 September 25, 2003 This one time, while skydiving... I was in a sit fly and my pants started to you know, flap with the wind. However, the crotch of my pants started flapping just...so...and it felt kind of...good...and my thought was: "Is it wrong to sport wood in freefall?" -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
moodyskydiver 0 #39 September 25, 2003 Once while I was in AFF, my JM and I went through a little "industrial haze" and apparently I had been grinning so big that I had my mouth slightly open and was breathing through my mouth. As we went through the hazy stuff I thought "Yuck! Man that 'haze' tasted nasty". "...just an earthbound misfit, I."
Vertifly 0 #40 September 26, 2003 What did it taste like? Maybe it was an acid-producing cloud. Speaking of Acid, maybe that is what happened to [airdweller] in the earlier post. He fell through an ACID cloud.

fraz 0 #43 October 10, 2003 First jump passing through cloud, "Hmmmm, that must be what the ground looks like if you are about to hit it...." S`about as strange as its got for me, though im only on 21 jumps ;)
Deuce 1 #44 October 10, 2003 After tossing my pilot chute and experiencing a total mal, I grabbed both my handles and thought to myself. "Ugh. At terminal reserve deployment with this big-ass camera helmet on. This is going to hurt." It ended up being a nice, on-heading opening that didn't hurt at all, but when I gathered up the parts of my rig I thought it was funny to be worried about my neck at a time like that. Aviatrr 0 #45 October 11, 2003 One day I picked up my rig after getting a reserve repack, and headed to the DZ the next morning. Second jump...spinning mal...as I was chopping it, I remember thinking to myself....DAMMIT! I SHOULD'VE WAITED THREE MORE DAYS! (the last repack would have been valid for three days after I chopped this one) I later realized....pretty shitty thing to be thinking of at a time like that...but, then again, it made me realize that cutaways didn't scare me anymore(this was my third).
