jlmiracle 7 #77 September 25, 2003 Quote>Length of separation (eg 3 sec) comes from the pilot. ??? I've never been on a load where a pilot told the jumpers how long to leave between exits. Mike Mullins ALWAYS tells you separation. If the uppers are really strong he will tell every group when they can exit. Samurai136 0 #78 September 25, 2003 QuoteHe then tells everyone on the plane that there are too many groups and each group should leave three (yes 3!) seconds of space between groups so everyone can get off in time. I think what he's actually saying is: A. Count to three B. Group Climbs Out C. Group releases from aircraft D. goto step A If you total up the time it takes to do steps A thru C you will have plenty of separation between groups unless you have 20+ solos. What infuriates some skydivers towards the nose of the aircraft is watching the 2nd group out give an acceptable 7-10sec separation and then start their climb out. Some people/groups take 15 sec or longer to do a climb out. Then pause for a few seconds and do a 'ready set go' count. Add it up; and that's just one group. As a 4-way competitor (tail) I usually start our climb out by the count of 3. By the time we have grips in the door and start our count, probably 10 sec have elapsed since the previous group dropped. That's a standard group separation for 'normal' winds aloft. Ken"Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken
dreamsville 0 #79 September 26, 2003 In no winds or with a Casa moving fast, 10 seconds is a long time, assuming no big-way is ahead of you. |I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. I keep falling out the door of the plane. Harry, FB #4143

Tonto 1 #81 September 30, 2003 QuoteAt our DZ generally leave at least 5s between groups, but if we hear "The uppers are really blowing" from the pilot, we leave it a little longer. Easy. What kite are you using? tIt's the year of the Pig.
