Thanks for the support. I dont really remember being told any great deal about landing rounds but that could be my memory. :S

Just a bit of common sense and the risers seemed to do the job!

I had limited height on crossing the road, went over near the model plane club. I was running with wind but didnt feel instinctively happy about turning into wind. I was low and wasnt used to how the canopy would descend with a 180 so went with the runing landing. Maybe i screwed up but i im ok so maybe the right decision. All that weight training must have paid off!!!

Sometimes its easier to make comments from a spectators viewpoint but i was under the canopy and made the call.:( which turned out ok:)

someone mention the :S throwout conversion. I trust this couldnt have had anything to do with the mal. It deployed the main etc. Assuming a tongue in cheek comment.:)

None of the student rigs at my DZ had packing cards or seals, which in Canada is perfectly fine, as long as the rigs don't leave the DZ and the info is kept someone on the DZ, say on a computer.

Have a closer look, I think you'll find each rig complete with a packing card AND seal Here in Canada. This is reserve info. Each rig must have the repack card showing the date of the last repack along with the name and number of the rigger that did it. Different rigs have them in different spots... popular places are a pocket under the reserve closing flap or even main closing flap... or sometimes a pocket in the mud-flab (shoulder)

If you give someone a pin check, you'll see the reserve pin is wrapped with a little red thread... this thread was put there by the rigger upon the last repack, the thread is looped around and a little metal 'seal' is afixed.. This seal should below to the rigger that did it... and thusly the number on the repack card.

The card gives you the make, size and manufacture date of the reserve as well as the number of times and the dates of the repacks. Schools are permitted to not place the seal, and to document all the repacks on one single sheet or computer if they do them all at once, but a reserve repack card must still be present to show what's in the tray.

Being that we are talking about how different schools mark their rigs differently, Andyman said it best 'cause different schools do it different ways and there's nothing saying you even have to mark it on the rig itself... but one should know how their DZ operates and if the main size is not listed, you should just ask an instructor or a school packer.

Yes mate it was ;) I was referring to your earlier post when you were debating whether or not to convert and you didnt know what to do. Everyone advised you to go for it. You did, and you got a mal. Just bad luck!

Sry....had to check the BSR's on this one.........Section 4: Parachute Equipment Doctrine....Packing Card Data "In the case of commercially operated schools or centers, where the equipment will not leave the normal place of opperation, the above required information(packing card) may be kept in an easily accessible master log." Reserve Sealing "A recognized parachuting school may choose to maintain a master repack log for its own equipment, rather than seal each reserve container, providing this equipment does not leave the normal place of operation."

You are correct in your statment reguarding reserve packing cards and sealing...I posted quoting the BSR's.......But i have a question......You list a Sabre2 150 as your main and show 14 jumps on your profile.......What type of program are u taking????(IAD/PFF/AFF) I just got my "solo" and have finally recieved permission to start trying "sport canopys" but even after 33 jumps(32 of em stand up) my instructors are going to make me wear a radio(dont blame them...common sence..be safe) I am just curious on how you came to be flying a 150 semi eliptical with 14 jumps????

I'm glad to hear that your OK. I just had my 1st mal a few jumps ago (self induced, high speed...got out of it fine) and although i wasn't scared at the time ( no time to be scared) the next week when i went back, I was extreemly anxious of FF deployments...so i decided to do a "hop and pop"...went great and i learned a contributing factor to my self induced mal....felling more confident i went back to 10k and 2 jumps later, I am glad for the experiance and lesson learned.....You should also feel more confident after your lesson ( although your mal was prob packing related and not stupidity as mine was:$)....you did the right thing...u identified a problem..."i cant fly this!!!!" and cut it away...Keep at it and i hope to hear a follow up as to how your next jump goes!!....Blue Skies:)

Cheers. Think you are right. At the time you are quite clear in your mind and positive about what you have to do which is a good thing. The concern sets in after time to reflect.

My biggest worry is a highspeed mal or horseshoe. This one was pretty calm and calculated. I spose thats another forum though!

Well went to the DZ with the sole intention of getting over last weeks malfunction. I even jumped the same rig!! Laughing in the face of superstition:S:ph34r:.

However, i was more nervous than usual and super paranoid on the way down. My slider did stick up a little and this unsettled me a bit, i was parnoid about my chest strap, then paranoid about my canopy (oh know did i pick the right size) but landed and av done it. Bit of an ungraceful landing in high wind but job done.;):)

Sounds good man....got the monkey off your back....paranoia does have a way of creeping up on you after after a mal or a less then perfect jump;)...You will back to your normal anxiety level next couple of jumps ...hehe.

I was hoping to jump this weekend...but due to weather and a friend who "forgot" to pick me up, I didnt get to>:(...shit happens and there is always next weekendB|.
