FlashingRock 0 #1 September 8, 2003 Hi, please feel free to comment on the following question. I am a female skydiver with +300 jumps. I have been jumping my Heatwave 135 for 180 jumps. I have a wingloading of 1.0 on the 135. I recently downsized to a 120 and did 30 jumps on it. I felt alot safer under the 1.15 loaded 120 Hurricane. I had alot more bottomend flare, it was less twitchy and the speed allowed me to fly it and not be a passenger. Then I unfortunately, after being zapped stayed for too long on my backrizers and ended up trying to go crosswind a bit to late. The result was me ending up with a broken bone in my left foot. not a bruise or scratch. People are insisting that I upsize to a 135 again. Dont I have a say in this? It wasn't the canopy's fault, it was a judgement error. I still feel that if I was on the Heatwave 135, I would have ended up more injured than on the Hurricane. I didn't have a problem landing this canopy before, and nobody said a word before this, because I landed it fine.

You can ignore their advice if you want, but be sure you're right before you do that. A larger canopy can minimize the bad effects of an error, and will generally result in slower landings - a good thing for someone with a healing foot. >It wasn't the canopy's fault, it was a judgement error. Most landing accidents are. Larger canopies simply reduce the resulting damage. Of course, in some cases (bad spot downwind) having a larger canopy may actually cause you trouble, but on the balance it will keep you intact over a wider range of problems. Derhakenwendung 0 #3 September 8, 2003 I fly a Hurricane 150 with a wingloading of 1.7. It is alot safer than my Heatwave 170. I say jump a 135 untill you are happy to go over to the 120 again. You should be able to make youre own call at this stageAnd all I wanna do is fly.....

Why is your Hurricane 150 "alot safer than my Heatwave 170"? Just very curious. Have a great day! Blues, J.E.James 4:
Derhakenwendung 0 #7 September 9, 2003 I have a lot more lift on my Hurricane, although I'm wingloading it more. I dont get half the lift on the Heatwave. Yes, my profile says 135. Had a really cool landings on it, but I still felt that the 150 would be safer. So here I am with the 150. On a cool morning, you don't land a Heatwave, you arrive!!And all I wanna do is fly.....
