Zoter 0 #1 October 21, 2003 Ok Ok Ok...now that I got over that this 'style' isnt some kind of martial art practiced in free fall.....and that my AFF instructor was doing it throughout my course ( oooohhh...so thats why his hands were so close to his body !) What is Mantis Style....? What are its pros and cons? When should you do it? Where can I learn more about it ? thanks all! I would face the pilot, left foot to the edge of door all the way up, right foot follows, one hand in, one hand out. Stick your head out, Prop, up, down ARCH. Its a good exit for AFF because you put yourself right into the wind and get stable really fast. Its the exit I picked when I did my first hop n pop. Hard to explain in words though. Hope this helps. This presents different flying challenges, depending on your attitude. Mantis is good practice for the ADT, as you should be ready to play with a spaceball if you can fly the Mantis position with stability in all the positions, and assuming you have basic skydiving awareness. Hip position is the basis of stability. Also, the picture of the woman (from the British 4-way team) may be inaccurate for men. When most guys try to fly with their knees that wide, they tend to de-arch. The short term solution is to keep knees closer together, to enable you to arch through your hips. The longer term goal is to stretch out hip flexor muscles so that you can arch with knees wide.
