Shadowplay 0 #1 September 1, 2003 Are there any skydiving mags available at a local newsstand in the US? I've looked all over for some and although I can find stuff on snowboarding, surfing, scuba, and even hangliding, nothing on Skydiving. I just joined USPA so I'll start to get their pub soon, but is there nothing else out there?
sdctlc 0 #2 September 1, 2003 Get a subscription to Skydiving Magazine as well. That is also a great one to get and read. Not on a newsstand as far as I have seen anywhere over the last 15 years... www.skydivingmagazine.com/ Scott C."He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!" JohnRich 4 #3 September 1, 2003 QuoteAre there any skydiving mags available at a local newsstand in the US? The public interest is not great enough to sell them in that manner. There are only two; "Parachutist", and "Skydiving". They used to send free copies to college libraries, but that's about it for non-subscription circulation I think. I recommend both. "Parachutist" is published by the U.S.P.A. and carries the official membership news and stuff. "Skydiving" is a commercial publication that is more informal, and also reports upon things that aren't politically correct for the membership magazine. Squeak 17 #5 September 2, 2003 I subscribe to Skydiving and I live in Oz it's a very good publicationYou are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS! How's yours doing?
Remster 30 #6 September 2, 2003 I subscibe to Syydiving, and there is quite a bit of world wide coverage. It is a bit US centric, but so is the sport! Parachutist is the USPA mag, but has quite a bit of technical info that trancends borders. Same goes for Skydive, The mag (the UK BPA member mag), it has good technical articles.Remster
Amazon 7 #7 September 2, 2003 QuoteIt is a bit US centric, but so is the sport! So come on out to Snohomish and jump with us....one of our TM is Gui Bock. He is from your province.. once in a while someone shows up who speaks French....so come on down to help keep his language skills in order I think he said he is going to go to Marana over the Holidays... less crowded than Eloy. Remster 30 #8 September 2, 2003 QuoteSnohomish Thats..... kinda far and into the rain belt, aint it? hehehe... seriously, it only makes sense that a lot of the news comes from the US... most (not all) the manufactuers are there, and there are a lot more jumps being done thereRemster
JohnRich 4 #9 September 2, 2003 QuoteWould either of both also be nice reading for foreigners or is it al USA specific blanter? They mostly cover U.S. skydiving, because they are U.S. publications. If you want to see coverage of skydiving in other countries, you should look for the skydiving organizations in those countries. As far as I know, there is no worldwide publication covering skydiving around the globe.
skymedic 0 #10 September 2, 2003 I have seen skydiving magazine and parachutist for sale at a few news stands in chicago when I lived there. Tower was one and a place on cicero that has everything.... Marc otherwise known as Mr.Fallinwoman....
bclark 0 #11 September 2, 2003 Skydiving is the superior parachuting publication. I refer to Parachutist as PARATISSUE because all it is, in my opinion, is glossy papered ass wipe. Skydiving still carries informative and educational technical articles. Parachutist is now about 75% advertisement and coverage of boogies etc... Also alot of public interest crap. If I could be a USPA member and get a discount for NOT getting parachutist I would.
D22369 0 #12 September 3, 2003 I agree with you completely, I would rather my uspa membership came with a subscription to skydiving.... RoyThey say I suffer from insanity.... But I actually enjoy it.
skymedic 0 #13 September 3, 2003 I agree with you guys. I wish I could have a discount on my USPA dues if I didn't have to get that pretty rag...and that's about all it is..pretty. I did get a survey from them a few months ago about an issue. I told em exactly what I thought of it. never heard back from them though...shame. Marc otherwise known as Mr.Fallinwoman....
