JustaBill 0 #1 August 21, 2003 I currently jump at Skydive Chicago and need some advice. They do AFP which requires 2 tandems. I won't be able to do the whole course until next summer due to time and money. I've already done my 2 tandems. A group of friends is going to go out in October and my question is should I do AFP1 knowing I'll have to repeat it next year when I do the whole course or should I just do another tandem? Anyone's input would be appreciated. Thanks------------------------------------------------ I've done so much, with so little, for so long I'm now expected to do everything with nothing forever
ixlr82 7 #2 August 21, 2003 Maybe consider a dropzone that offers static-line method. A lot of people will disagree but it is (IMO) a viable option to keep you involved in the sport without having to spend a lot of time and money in one short time period. __________________________________________
JustaBill 0 #3 August 21, 2003 I've thought of that, but the DZ that's close that offers static line is only open on weekends and I work most weekends . With the AFP I can take a weeks vacation and get it all done. But thank you for the suggestion ------------------------------------------------ I've done so much, with so little, for so long I'm now expected to do everything with nothing forever
kallend 2,105 #4 August 21, 2003 You will learn more with an "extra" AFP jump than with an "extra" tandem jump. And you'll have the satisfaction over the winter of knowing you've done it.... TEB6363 0 #5 August 21, 2003 Yep, if it is in your budget, go ahead and take the AFP course now and do the jump. You may love it, you may not. If you wait a year, you take the course again - good practice Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
dmitch31 0 #6 August 21, 2003 Hey, I'm in the same situation. But, I don't really care. So I'll have to repeat a jump at one point. That's fine. The reason I'm doing this is because I want to, so extra jumps don't bother me. It's not really about passing every jump the first time either. Just enjoy it, and if you have to do one jump twice to pass, then so be it. It's all a good investment.
kai2k1 0 #7 August 22, 2003 I was in a similar situation, except at my DZ i did three tandems, and just completed my first TAF (basically AFF, but one JM). If you are going to have to repeat due to weather and $$$ i would recommend doing the AFP, this way you'll have most of the winter to think about it. Also i would recommend getting a copy of the SIM, then you can bone up on the material.
