I'm sure there is, but we didn't take very many special precautions against the cold. I'd use thin thermals and a turtleneck (along with my usual thin gloves) and was fine. I could have switched to my thick MTS thermals, thicker gloves, gaiter etc and been pretty warm, even at -34F. Also keep in mind that he was gradually descending through warmer and warmer air, which coincides nicely with getting colder as the wind chills you down.
