n2skdvn 0 #1 August 6, 2003 I thought this would be a better place to diccuss than in the incidents fourm but it is related to a post there. this past weekend i borrowed an instructos rig.(wings container, diablo 150 main, tempo 150 res, cypress equiped and on) After an uneventful 2 way with my brother, I tracked then went to pull. on the first attempt i could no extract the boc(hackey), the second i pulled it out about 2 in,told my self one more time then go for silver. On the final attempt i pulld as hard as i could and the pilot chute finaly came out. started deployment a 3500 was open by 2200(glad i puled high, pre planed). so to every one no matter how many times you go over a rig expect the unexpected.and know your backup plans( go once ,go twice,if it don't work on the third time go silver!!) Amazon 7 #2 August 6, 2003 I don't get it... my BOC is a spandex pouch on my Infinity container... I always make sure the Pilotchute is cocked since I got a collapsible...I carefully fold my pilotchute and carefully fanfold the excess Bridle then roll the pilotchute around the excess then insert it into the pouch... I hear about people having hard pulls and cant imagine what would cause that....mine comes out effortlessly every time. Amazon
n2skdvn 0 #3 August 6, 2003 the wings i jumped did not have a spandex pouch it was codura with an elastic opening not sure if that was the cause of if the girl that packed the pilot chute. the instructor told me that another jumper had a hard pull on it before. beyond that i dont know.if my calculations are correct SLINKY + ESCULATOR = EVERLASTING FUN my site
mr2mk1g 10 #4 August 6, 2003 one of our club rigs has a very hard pull - it has had its spandex pocket replaced as the old one got too worn. I jumped it a week ago and took about at least 500ft to pull the damn thing. Now Im no small bloke and I knew it was gonna be a hard pull. We have sought advice about this and have been shown a way to fold the pilot chute so its very small so is as easy as possible to pull. other than that we have been advised just to wait as the spandex will become worn and easier. Remember, you dont want your boc pocket too loose or your pilot chute could work out in FF and cause a premature
gus 1 #5 August 6, 2003 Was this Wings equiped with the 'freefly handle'? A friend of mine was having problems with hers until someone suggested that instead of just pulling the handle that she first push it away (to release the handle from the lip that holds it in place) then pull is as normal. No more problems! GusOutpatientsOnline.com

grega 0 #7 August 6, 2003 Maybe the size of the container wasn't built for 150 sq. feet canopies. Maybe it was built for canopies up to 135. In that case pilot chute wouldn't go out easily too. Just a thought..."George just lucky i guess!"
n2skdvn 0 #8 August 6, 2003 not that either, my thinking is the pilot chute bunched up in the boc pouch due to poor pc packing(IE monkey fist)if my calculations are correct SLINKY + ESCULATOR = EVERLASTING FUN my site
goose491 0 #9 August 7, 2003 Quotethe wings i jumped did not have a spandex pouch it was codura with an elastic opening ...... Damn that cordura BOC!!! Honestly, (please don't flame) I really don't trust it... I haven't since I saw the option. Cordura has no give! If your pilot chute 'bunches up' enough to not get out... Hard pull. slotperfect 7 #10 August 7, 2003 I learned a great test for one's pilot chute packing method: -fold your pilot chute as you normally do, and put it neatly in the pouch as always. -pull out a little bridle from underneath it at the mouth of the pouch, then try to pull the pilot chute out that way. -if it comes right out, you are good to go -if it jams up in the pouch and you can pick your rig up off the floor with it, you may want to try another method of folding it (there are lots of ways) Works for me! digurman 0 #13 August 8, 2003 I talked to an adgitated tandem instructor the other day who had tried to cut away but could not pull the pillow from the velcro in the stardard "upward" peel. He showed me how it would not come loose enve when pulled with two hands. A "downward" peel would break it free. Luckily the canopy inflated before he could cut it away. In this case the 2nd malfunction allowed the 1st malfunction time to correct itself. I'm guessing the hook side of the velcro was sewn in upside down. smiles 0 #14 August 8, 2003 1000+ jumps with positive pull (pilot chute in the container where it belongs) Never had a hard pull, or pilot chute in tow and nothing beats pulling your own pin. Could anyone explain why positive pull is not more popular??????????? Smiles
