phonics1981 0 #1 August 6, 2003 Not sure if this is the best place to post this but.... Do any other sports have such a passionate online community? Ive been on many football (soccer to all you over the water) forums and i LOVE football, but i've never ever seen any forums where its members genuinely love their sport as much as skydiving! Skydiving is not just a spot its a lifestyle. Do any of you participate in other sports with the same enthusiasm as skydiving? ------------------------------------------------------ "Ive given up on sigs cos I make a mess of them!" ------------------------------------------------------
AggieDave 6 #2 August 6, 2003 The group of people I used to Mt. Bike with were like this. Lived, ate, slept, drank Mt. Biking. Most of our bikes cost more then our cars, and all we lived to do was go on rides. Then I found Skydiving.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." andy2 0 #6 August 6, 2003 let's see, heres a few sports off the top of my head that I've been involved with that people are just as passionate about as skydiving: fishing, hunting, horseback riding (I didnt ride them, I just cleaned up their shit), mountain biking, and rock climbing. Like Skydiving, these sports usually the people involved would love to gather and discuss their sport, from equipment to any emotional aspect involved with it... Oh also, I have never done a BASE jump, but from what I gather the community is even more closely knit than the skydiving community. doh- I just read your post more carefully and you were talking about ONLINE communities. Yeah, I'd have to narrow my opinion down to just BASE jumping. Pretty good online community, much like skydiving. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm... Once the word got out that I was learning, everyone I knew who is a pilot called or stop by to see me to offer encouragement, advise, and loaner equipment.Arrive Safely John
DJL 235 #9 August 6, 2003 I'd say cuz not many other sports have the degree of addiction that skydiving does. Also, it's a very group oriented sport as in when we just we hang out the entire weekend and get to know each other. You don't see that with climbing, kayaking, hang-gliding..."I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

wmw999 2,532 #12 August 6, 2003 I'm not sure it'd be considered a sport, but a number of car enthusiast groups (i.e. particular makes/models have very active groups also. Ronnie 0 #16 August 7, 2003 The rock climbing online and offline community is an exact parallel to the skydiving community. It is really interesting to see the similarities within each group. Sometimes I am shocked by how much they are the same!
