Failed pins

Recommended Posts

DanT owner of Paraphenalia (manufacturer of the Softie pilot rigs) told me about a pin breaking in his rig. He said that the tension on their rigs is a lot less than a sport skydiving rig and he was very concerned about the situation. After this happened, he told me (a couple of months ago) that he recommended all jumpers check their pins regularly because there was no way to really tell when a pin might fail. He made me promise not to jump again until my pins were tested.

Test #1 is almost impossible to perform on a pilots rig, when you apply a load to the pin it comes out of the loop.

Just got told that half of the GK 4-way's last-year rigs failed the test. This is not joke. Check your shit.

I do not think it is a joke. Did the pins break or did they bend? That is what I am trying to find out.

our dz had a rigger do pin check last weekend and no breaks so far at our dz....whew...have a rigger be in charge and check all rigs over the weekends...that way you're not fucked if its broken and you can get it fixed before a horrible accident...we don't need any more dead/hurted B|skydivers out there...:)

Has anyone had or heard of a pin breaking or have they all just bent? The SB was issued for pins that broke.

we had one bend at less that 6 lbs of pull. I'm willing to bet it would have broke. The guy was pissed that he couldn't jump and said he was going to "find" a dz that would let him jump it. A jumper even offered to loan him one so he could jump that day. It was on a Javlin I believe.
