AndyMan 7 #1 July 14, 2003 After a weekend of heavy jumping I've got bruises on my bicepts. I've never figured out where these come from. Anybody else get these? Figure out where they come from? _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
Nutz 0 #2 July 14, 2003 I get them all the time, I think it is the way the rig fits. Or else the dang three rings dig into my arm on opening. If that is the only injury I recieve, I don't worry about it.
Muenkel 0 #3 July 14, 2003 Yes, I've gotten them on every AFF jump. But I am using a student rig. The cause, I really do not know. But right now I am concentrating on too many other things to worry about these bruises. Chris _________________________________________ Chris

nacmacfeegle 0 #7 July 14, 2003 Hmm, looking at your avatar pic Chris, I'd say the rig is probably to blame. Muenkel 0 #8 July 14, 2003 In that pic, the rig is already partially undone. Are you serious, are you seeing something this newbie is clueless about and wouldn't my instructors have noticed? lizzieb 0 #9 July 14, 2003 yes...i get them after a long weekend of jumping. i think my rig is slightly big in the shoulders (width wise) and the largest of the three ring hits my biceps on opening.
SkySlut 0 #10 July 14, 2003 I used to get them when I was using student gear. Faster openings and a poor fit. Used to get them in the inside of my legs too...the rigs just never were comfortable. Once I got a rig that was made for me...I never had the problem again.

dunesurfer 0 #14 July 14, 2003 I've gotten these from striking the risers on a hard opening. I got some massive ones on my first 4 crw jumps.

JamesNahikian 0 #16 July 14, 2003 I attribute some of the arm bruises I receive now and then to aggressively reaching for my risers during opening sequence. I'm guessing you have large biceps like I do, and there isn't much play between your biceps and the shoulder area of your harness, so you're getting pinched. You might try loosening your leg straps an inch or two so that you settle downwards more. I also get arm bruises from grips by other freefliers, but these leave a different pattern. D. AndyMan 7 #17 July 14, 2003 I don't think its from exit or grips, my harness fits reasonably well.... so I'll go with this one, only because it means I can facetiously brag about my large biceps. Andie787 0 #19 July 14, 2003 I think female students get these a lot because the rig is too big. But I got them on my last two jump with a much smaller rig too. The bruises are up high on my arms. I figured out it's actually the harness digging into my arms when I'm reaching up and holding on to the toggles in full flight. It's digging in but you don't really feel it since you just came out of the rush of freefall and are happy with what's above your head. I'm proud of my bruises! But my boyfriend said, "It looks like that's where I grab you and shake you when we have a fight..." Andie

Figure out where they come from? _Am Yes - and on my chest. I know the chest bruises come from the chest strap but I never figured out for sure where the arm bruises come from. I *suspect" the risers whack my arms (I reach up to catch the risers during deployment).... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one. hookitt 1 #21 July 14, 2003 The risers are in back of you so risers tend not to hit you in the arms. The upper 4 point, (just under the 3 rings) will hit you in the arms if the harness doesn't fit correctly. If it's too small and you can't pull them close enough together or if it's too big and the chest strap is loose, Getting smacked in the arms with the sides of the upper 4 point is not uncommon. oldnewbie 0 #22 July 15, 2003 Although I'm a newbie, for what its worth, i'll tell you what was doing it to me! For some reason, out of the *clear blue sky* I started getting bruised in the arms. Then it started happening on the legs. I would get so bad, i would have to quit jumping for a few days. Then I would start again, no bruises for 5 jumps, then the next 3 would kill me again. I noticed that this happened when i had hard openings. (this also changed the position that i was in when i was opening, which caused more bruising problems). I talked about this with an instructor, he had me gear up, took a look at it and told me to make the rig tighter. The rig was too loose, and when i opened, it would somewhat slip off my shoulders a little big as i settled into the rig. As it slipped off and my body position changed, it would rub/take off a chunk of my arm (and i would slip down too far in the harness and it would also bruise my legs if they were loose enough). Plus of course, I have these totally massive muscles in my arms!!!! lol
