CaneSpider 0 #1 July 2, 2003 hey everybody, i'm going for my first jump in exactly 2 weeks, and i was wondering...exactly how do you exit the plane, usually? do you have to get on the wing, dangle from a bar, just jump, or what? i'd feel more comfortable if i knew what to expect. i'm going for my first AFF jump, if that makes any difference.Skydiving is my affirmation of life. it's good to know God still needs me. phonics1981 0 #2 July 2, 2003 It depends on the aircraft. But dont worry, the instructors will brief you in full and have you practice the exit in a mock-up so that you will be doing it in your sleep!! ------------------------------------------------------ "Ive given up on sigs cos I make a mess of them!" ------------------------------------------------------

KenKnight 0 #4 July 2, 2003 Depends mostly on the plane, size of the door, and the type of instruction. From the caravan, I stood just outside the door with 1 JM inside the door and one outside with me. From the otter, I sat in the door with 1 JM inside and 1 JM in the door with me. Your instructors will go over the exit with you several times, usually with a mock-up of the plane door._______________ D28695 PoPs #9237 "Mix ignorance with arrogance at low altitude and the results are almost guaranteed to be spectacular" — Bruce Landsberg
CaneSpider 0 #5 July 2, 2003 thanks. i don't know why but i like the idea of just jumping better than holding on to something outside the plane. i want just to not have to think about it, you know? just GO!Skydiving is my affirmation of life. it's good to know God still needs me. In other levels you'll do that, the purpose of 'holding' is to let your instructors know you are ready, so you all can jump at the same time.__________________________________________ Blue Skies and May the Force be with you. BenGriffiths 0 #9 July 2, 2003 You sometimes hold onto the plane so that when you go you are presenting the best possible body position to the air flow. As everyone else has said - Your Instructors will teach you everything you need to know. And another thing there's no such thing as a dumb question in Skydiving. You may as well ask on the ground than realize you don't know the answer with the ground hurling towards you at 120mph!!!---------- Ben G Still Sinking :-(
Luna 0 #10 July 2, 2003 It it's an otter, you will be on the outside of the plane, holding on. If it's a Casa, you'll be standing right on the edge of the tailgate and hop off. In either case, like the others have said, it will not be a "just jump" situation because your instructors have to get hold of you and then leave with you. You'll get in position, check with them both to make sure they are ready, then give a three-count to exit. Don't worry, it's really not as bad as you think it is.
