Free Falling

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, new skydiving junkie here. Just did my level 4 AFF and it went good. Question is, I tend to bobble I guess thats what u call it. My JM said I'm probably to tense during the fall. I just feel like if I relax I'll fall out of the stable arch. Of course at the end of the day all my muscles are stiff or is this something you get used to. Like with other sports, when I first played ice hockey my feet always killed me but after awhile the pain went away. Anyway, the stiff muscles is this just part of skydiving or being to tense. Any tips greatly appreciated.

PS Where the hell has this sport been all my life :)

The catch is, if you do relax, you'll fall into a more stable arch. Funny, huh? :P

The stiff muscles are resulting from both.

You're using those muscles like they've never been used before AND you're making them worst by being tense. I don't have a lot of jumps, but I've been jumping enough that a couple jumps don't kill my muscles like they did when I first started. However, if I'm jumping hard or I didn't stretch at the beginning of my jump day, then they will be sore the next day.

Do what your instructor says, relax, breath, arch and SMILE (remember, this is fun). B|

Think of it as letting the wind blow your arms and legs back. Then your body will naturally arch, and you'll fall stable.

Consider the badminton birdie -- it always falls with the feathers last. Works that way with bodies, too, only the arms and legs are the feather equivalents if they're behind the body.

There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

Relaxing is definately the way to do it. Just let your hands flop. You will feel the difference straight away. Instead of feeling like you TRYING to fall through they air, you will feel like you SHOULD be falling through the air.
