phoenixlpr 0 #1 September 19, 2003 Hi, I had an incident. I was jumping with a gear I wanted to buy. It was my 3rd jump with it. I was told to open high: 1500m. It was ~550 jumps in the canopy/line-set and no AAD. I was the last to leave the plain with 8sec separation after a student-JM RW pair.I had a harder opening and broken lines on the left side/tail. The slider went just half/third way down. The canopy started to turn to the right. That was the point Ive decided that the canopy was not landable. Ive cuted away an opened reserve. I shouldve opened a bit early, because I had a line twist. Ive seen that bitch flying and the freebag falling. Ive kicked out the line twist. I couldnt chase the main or the freebag, because there was not any place to land in that area: village, lake, swamp, high-way, railroad, high-tension lines and forest. The main and freebad is still missing, not recovered. Ive checked my ProTrack I was deployed at 1250m. Im still wondering if Ive done the right thing. One thing is sure: Im writting this lines and I had not even a scratch. i think my health worth more than 800Euro that Ive lost.
Chrisky 0 #2 September 19, 2003 Glad you're there in one piece. If it was not your gear yet, why do you have to pay for it? Could just as well have happened to the owner with the same result. Did you pack the main yourself before that jump? Depending on the type of lines, they should have been exchanged about 200 jumps prior to that one (~250-350 jumps if i'm not mistaken?). Everybody please correct me if i'm wrong! The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... Not every Swooper hooks & not every Hooker swoops ... andy2 0 #3 September 19, 2003 a successful skydive is when you make it down unhurt. The main/freebag can easily (maybe not easily for some people) be replaced. Shit happens, keep looking for it though. Another idea is in a few days check with the police in case someone turned in the parachute (although you'd think they'd call the local dropzone). --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm... phoenixlpr 0 #4 September 19, 2003 Yeah, it was my packjob. Ive seen the line were dirty and used. The owner claimed that he bought the canopy with ~300 jumps, he had ~250 jumps with it.
phoenixlpr 0 #5 September 19, 2003 We had search on that day. Some others were searching the day after. I had one more search session some other day. It might landed in a swamp or lake...
