tetra316 0 #1 June 16, 2003 I'm learning to freefly and want to make some pants rather than buy something. Any suggestions on what kind of material to make them out of. I've asked a couple of people and they said it doesn't really matter what kind of material just that they are baggy. Ideas? Thanks:)
darkwing 5 #2 June 16, 2003 the body of the fabric (i.e., how stiff it is) has a major influence on how much drag it produces. As the fabric gets used and washed its body will decrease somewhat. Heavy cotton/polyester blends are a good choice. There should be some suitable ones at any fabric source. I know I saw some at Walmart recently. You might also find some suitable acrylic fabric, but my preference is for the aforementioned cotton/poly. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
tetra316 0 #3 June 16, 2003 What about some cheaper places to buy freefly pants. Does anyone know of some websites?
flyboyshell 0 #4 June 17, 2003 This subject is a good subject! However, the type of material you use does play an important role in your jump. The thicker the material the more drag, the thinner the faster. We have an option of both materials that we use, either twill or supplex. Although our choice accent is limited for the next week due to our stock, we are going to have a wider range to choose from. We focus more on quality then quantity! Good luck on finding materials and the manufacturing of the pants. If you need any advice, please feel free to ask.Blue Skies!!! fundgh 0 #5 June 17, 2003 Supples is a trade name...right? Isn't it a nylon based material? Where can one come across Supplex? I looked at all of the fabric stores in my area and the little ol ladies have never heard of the name Supplex. I ended up building my jumpsuit out of a Poly cotton blend and it turned out really cool!...FUN FOR ALL!
darkwing 5 #6 June 17, 2003 supplex is a specially finished nylon. It has a cotton-like feel to it. It is widely used in camping/hiking clothing. -- Jeff My Skydiving History

rehmwa 2 #8 June 17, 2003 Supplex is expensive compared to other fabrics. My wife makes freefly suits/pants and has used a light denim fabric. It breathes very well (supplex has a tighter weave, feels lighter but breathes less). The light denim tie dies well also. ... andy2 0 #9 June 17, 2003 I have a question. What about using codura? This stuff is so durable. I think it would make indestructible pants. PhreeZone 20 #10 June 17, 2003 Too much drag. Mouth has pants made out of it and they are REALLY draggy. I've got knees on my suit with it and theyt are stiff in free fall and show on on video as not flapping that much.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
