I'm yet to see Joe Jennings, Troy Hartman, Loic, or dozen's of other jumpers take flack like Felix does. They all have done things just as cool as Felix (Loic and the Wingsuit down the mountian, Troy all over MTV, Joe and the cars), but since they don't have the attitude behind them that Felix does they are viewed differently.

He's pissed the BASE community off by burning objects/events that he just walks up's and jumps with out respecting locals that have guarded the object/event for years. TomA had this to say about his BASE abilities...

If Red Bull dropped him tommorrow that would probally be the last anyone would hear about Felix since they provide him his toys.

After viewing his website, I can say that though his stunts (or "stunts"?) are cool, they're not as special and record-breaking as they are presented (apparently, by Red Bull). I'm bored...

And if what you guys are saying about his BASE behavior is true, then it's downright shameful.

And yes, sometimes you can judge people without meeting them.Though in this case I'm in no position to do so.

Ahhh, but ya gotta remember that with fully deployed canopy, winds have a much greater effect. Even if the canopy pilot only had a 2:1 glide ratio. Because he's in the air a lot longer time (because he's descending slower) he might make it.

I'm not so certain that a hard wing would see quite as dramatic an effect because the decent rate is still pretty high by comparison.

I think you may be right, He should be promoting me instead of himself, or maybe you... how selfish of him thinkin only of him and what he wants instead of us and what we wants. Logic prevails once again in this world of mayhem due to persons like ourselves hehehehahahehe!!!!

Felix was at a freefly boogie I attended last year. He was not a popular person there and did not win my sympathy either (though I may not be liked by many who first meet me either).

The event was sponsored by Red Bull, and that was the reason of his presence and his free jumps there, however he was one of the most self-oriented famous skydivers I got to know (Olav, Omar, Stefania etc were all there as well - what a difference), with apparently little socialising skills. He is a small guy sweating testosteron.

He got real unpopular, when he caused a stop in jumps by "hijacking" the helicopter as a last jumper out and doing a jump into the center of the nearby city. Noone new what happened to him, he was missing for hours and the regulation in that country was no jumps in case of incident until cleared.

With all that said, I think you can criticise his personality (if you think you are a better person) but his living and lifestyle depends on his self promotion, that is what the Red Bull pays him to do. That is what Tom Cruise and John Travolta does, and De Gayardon was doing (yes he seemed to be much nicer person).

Endangering other people -agree, condemnable. although I havent heard of it. Side effect of his activity - increased popularity of air sports.
