Fireflyer 0 #1 May 26, 2003 I made my first jump (an AFF 3) from a Cessna (182) this weekend and liked it BETTER than the turbine Beech 99 I jumped out of 3 times before. I was all giddy and crap back in the packing area and talking to people, and those overhearing my new love and preferrence for this plane made everyone chuckle! Ok, there was downright laughter from a few (all positive of course)! I laughed with them; I loved it! The only thing I miss is 13,500 versus 10,500. But I will survive! Anywho, I am always SO apprehensive about my exit. I am confident in the air and under canopy, but getting 3 people out the door with me sideways from the Beech 99 and getting righted always seems daunting. Especially as I lost one JM once on exit, (but the dive continued well). With the Cessna, I LOVED the view hanging out there on the wing support, and the ease of just stepping off. My JMs said it was excellent too (though I always have exited pretty well from the Beech, I think the slower speed helped too). Also, I think less pressure from seeing 15 people jump out before me - we were all to ourselves. I also should mention I was SUPER scared for some reason a few mins before jump time. The thought "this may not be for me" even ran through my head briefly. I think it was because I only had 3 jumps under me and haven't been up in almost a month. Has this ever happened to anyone? I always think clearly though, and had a "excellent" dive, and was even told I may be able to skip a level. My enthusiasm was renued instantaneously and I am ready (CLAWING) to get up their again. I suppose a little stage fright is ok? Thoughts? Anyways, I am smiling ear to ear as I think of the day, as it was a great jump, and my first "release dive". I didn't even notice I wasn't being held on my reserve side, and my main JM was just pinching my suit grips to stay in the game. I dropped my right knee when I pulled, angling me off a bit, but the main was out fast enough. I got a little more aggressive with turning the canopy and what not, and put it down darn near within 10 degrees. Flared a wee bit high, but I am tough Hope yours was swell also! spidermonky 0 #2 May 26, 2003 Cool man! Each plane you jump has its high and low points. Anything with a strut and step is always alot of fun to launch from.
SkydiveMonkey 0 #3 May 26, 2003 182's might be slow climbing, but they are a great climbing frame ____________________ Say no to subliminal messages
robskydiv 0 #4 May 26, 2003 It sounds like you're doing great. Don't worry about the queasy vibes especially after a lull between jumps. Just keep on jumping.
AggieDave 6 #5 May 26, 2003 Right on! I love jumping 182s, they're fun and easy to jump from (and to do interesting exits ), although they hold less jumpers and they climb a bit slower, I still love 182s. (I large majority of my jumps are out of 182s, although I've jumped a lot of different turbines too).--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." katiebear21 0 #6 May 26, 2003 Good story! I was scared shitless on my first Cessna jump because I had only ever jumped Otters. After the first one though I loved it too! I liked looking out and spotting by myself - exiting all alone after the student and instructor! I've never launched any formation out but like Dave said I'm sure that gets interesting too!
