k2everest 0 #1 May 13, 2003 Hello, I thought of doing some tunnel work as I progress through AFF. Is there much of a difference between the Tunnel at Las Vegas(Flyaway), and the Tunnel at Orlando (Skyventure)? What tunnel would be best as I work through AFF? Las Vegas is closer to where I live but if Orlando is better for coaching I'd go there. Thanks for your advice.
LouDiamond 1 #2 May 13, 2003 Go to Orlando if your serious about learning to fly. Vegas is for tourists looking for a thrill"It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
skybytch 273 #3 May 13, 2003 Orlando. It's wall to wall air and there's loads of excellent coaches available. This fall they'll be opening a tunnel of the same design at the dz in Perris, CA. Can't wait!
mikeat10500 12 #4 May 13, 2003 A friend of mine just got back from Fla...and spent $7000 in the Tunnel (at Orlando)...I saw his video... WOW,he is now the shit(as they say). The coaches are nothing short of magic! ...mike P.S. there is one long lanky girl coach in his video that defies physics.----------------------------------- Mike Wheadon B-3715,HEMP#1 Higher Expectations for Modern Parachutists. I'm going in June. Blue Skies Steve Ok, so it's pink, but I'm secure in my manhood, and I still look cool coming in under it!

arlo 0 #7 May 13, 2003 would that be Kenny Tremblay? :) tell him i said hello. now to answer the question LV vs MCO? Skyventure Orlando hands down. coaching is available from tunnel instructors (some of which are AFF instructors), hired coaches, etc. Also, airline tickets from CA/NV area are around $200 round-trip so if that's do-able, i'd recommend it. if you need help in arranging coaches or time, PM me and I will get you set up or answer any specific questions you might have regarding the tunnel). good luck with whatever you decide to do!! :) arlo

dsbbreck 0 #9 May 13, 2003 I've been to the one in Vegas. You won't learn anything there. They aren't into coaching you, just a tourist trap, and the tunnel is small and has a very small cone of air to work in. Definately go to Orlando.David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
skygod7777 0 #10 May 13, 2003 go to orlando. the one in vegas sucks. at orlando you can get some coaching and all the good stuff, and learn something, in vegas you just fly, and can't do much, not enough air you have to wear a big floppy suit, and it just sucks. later

Albatross 0 #12 May 13, 2003 Orlando, NO Question. THe Vegas tunnel as people have said produces a cone of air and especially in the begining you need to work hard and well to stay inside it. Orlando is air everywhere and you can fly. Orlando has higher speeeds, more stable air, better coaches, better video, wil let you wear your own jumpsuit, and so on.Chris
trilete312 0 #13 May 13, 2003 I have no experience with Vegas, but I visited Orlando this fall. I only got to do 3 dives in the tunnel, but it really helped me. I was still on student status and it made me a lot more confident in my ability to fall without back sliding and to move forward by using my legs. Add to that it was fun and right across the street from a water park that was a good time.----------- Ready, Set, Gooooooo

Albatross 0 #16 May 13, 2003 From the inside it seems more like Sept-Oct than Aug. That being said we did break ground on 5/3 so we got that going for us.Chris
rjackson 0 #17 May 14, 2003 Vegas is a waste of time and money. SkyVenture is great. You dont have to spend alot of money to get good results. Even if you dont get formal coaching just tell the staff what you want to work on and they'll help you out. The only bummer is Orlando is very busy with all of the teams, camps and people buying large blocks of time. Make sure you get a reservation early.--------------------------------------------- Randy

icemaker 0 #19 May 15, 2003 I just got back home today from tunnel camp #47 in Orlando. I can highly recommend it. The staff at Sky Venture and the Arizona Airspeed were top notch. I only had time to do the three day basic camp. Camp cost is $1100.00 then I spent close to another $1000.00 on evening tunnel time with the Airspeed coaches. I am all ready planning on going back when I can do the entire 6 day camp. If you have any question check out www.tunnelcamp.com it is a pretty good web site with up coming dates. icemaker

dreamsville 0 #22 May 15, 2003 Yes. The FreeflyTrainingCenter.com at Sebastian does. During the season they also do Freefly Thursdays at The Tunnel. This time of year Dave Brown and the others begin to travel around to other DZs to coach and organize (see Skydiving mag to find out if they're coming your way), but if you contact the FFTC someone will get back to you and let you know when the next times are that they have Tunnel time available. |I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. I keep falling out the door of the plane. Harry, FB #4143
gatorbait 1 #23 May 15, 2003 I say Orlando too, I have flown in that one and it is what helped convince me to go ahead & jump. We just moved here from Lakeland which is just a few minutes SW of Orlando. The staff at Skyventure are all very proffessional, if you let them know that you are working on your AFF they will help you alot. Also Skydive Greensburg will have a wind tunnel up & running as of Memorial day weekend. So if your anywhere near Indiana, check us out!
allicat 0 #24 May 16, 2003 I'm driving down to Orlando June 2nd with some other people from my DZ and am buying 30 minutes of tunnel time. Wish I could afford and hour but I think 30 minutes will definitely be worthwhile. Can't wait!
